2000 S10

I have owned a 2000 S10 for a year and a half now. It was a 2.2 4 cylinder in it. And im tired of having no acceleration. I mean when i get up to spead it aint bad. What are my options? i know i could trade it in on sumtin faster but is there anything else i could do to make it accelerate faster? BTW ive neva fixed a thing on a car but im not bad at fixing machines. and i got alot of relatives who fix cars so i could possably do some of it my self.

K & N Intake...other than that, get a new truck. Remember;

There is no replacement for displacement!

You could check to see if Hypertech/Superchips/Diablo/JET makes a programmer for your truck. This would yield you some performance (around 10-15 hp).

I wouldn't invest in an exhaust system. Many people think that a less restrictive exhaust will yield you more power. This is the downfall of many ricers. Backpressure provides torque, which is exactly what you are looking for (acceleration). Only larger displacement motors can benefit from more exhaust flow.

You could try a K&N FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kit). They are expensive (~$200-$300), but are effective.

backpressure is bad, regardless of the asipration being used or displacement of an engine. it is the scavenging effect of a well tuned exhast system that can be lossed when someone goes for an overly large exhast. this is whya true exhast upgrades replaces all the components at once and has taken into account the operating chartersistic of the motor. reality is that they are not as simple of an upgrade as most people think.

as for the 2.2, it realy is a gutless engine no matter what you do to it. power of a 3, drinks fuel like a 6. however the engine is basicly the same as the 2.2 used in caviliers of the same time period, so you cna look towards those for an idea of perfroamnce upgrades.

its a 2000 with 57k miles. I paid 7500 for it and i still owe 5k on it. I was thinking about selling it and buying something with a bigger moter but i want to get all my options first.
