I'd buy the Mazda, although not sure why it's in here, as it's not in the same class as the other three, it's more of a Civic/Corolla/Sentra competitor. I assume you meant Mazda 6, so get that. The VW Passat TDI would be a decent car, but beware electrical problems.

The Honda would be probably the best drive, so I'd plump for that one.

Honda hands down, great drive, the V6 is tops, compfortable but ultimately the reliability is what should sell you on the Honda Accord.

I'm on my third one! First on got 250K before is was totalled in an accident. Second was great got 150k before trade in and my new 2003 still "feels" new. So not quite 500K miles with only a CV joint that was replaced; and that was under warranty!!

I work for an extended warranty company and we get killed on VW's, they are not very reliable. Can't say anything bad about the Toyota or Honda, and have no opinion on Mazda's.

I like drop tops, but the Accord is the clear choice. If you're talking about that price range in general, as I suspect, there are a lot better cars in that range.

Having driven the Honda and Mazda, I'd go for the Honda. Accelerates more smoothly, shifts more cleanly, and there's that whole thing about fitting in it that gives it a bit of an edge.

Honda Accord or Mazda 6. Particularly if you are thinking about the functionality of the five door or wagon Mazda. Plus, I like their styling especially on the wagon.

If indeed the initial poster was considering a mazda 6 and not a mazda 3, I would have to say that the mazda 6 is by far the nicest looking car, with good performance from the v-6 motor. If opting for the Accord, which would probably be my choice, you'll get reliability, performance, and amazing re-sale value.

Honda or the Toyota, you'll get the best and still make some money back when you sell it at 200,000 miles. VW are pieces of shit now. Not familiar with any of the Mazdas.
Which one are you leaning to? what purpose are you buying? we need more info.

As much as I'm a Toyota guy, I dislike the tired Camry-bastardization coupe we all call the Solara. The Accord while a great car, it's a little bland for my tastes. The Mazda3 is outclassed by other choices. So I'dhave to go with the Passat, this is only if I'd be buying a brand new car. On a side note I wouldn't bother with any of the listed cars.

Yeah more info may help.

If you like electrical problems go for the Passat. If you want your car to blend in with every other car in the parking lot go for the Honda. The Toyota is okay, although I blew the engine in my Camry at only 66k miles. The dealership wouldn't do anything for me and since it was the V6 it was actually the same engine that was in the Lexus $$$. I would go for the Mazda. Then you could walk around every where saying "Zoom Zoom"

Since you're giving cons to each car, I have to ask whether anyone knows if Mazda has fixed that ignition wiring problem. Haven't heard anything about any new fires lately, so it's probably fixed, but there are some problems.

I'm a Honda guy, but I would get a Solara because of the styling. It's much better than the current Accord.

I've never owned a Mazda, I just think some of their commercials are funny. I like the one with the lady in the pottery class. Anyway, all of the people (at least 5) who have owned VW's have had electrical problems. I like Hondas that have been fixed up a bit. Stock Hondas are every where you look, but they are reliable. Of course who am I kidding, I drive a beater Neon.

It depends on the type of car that you want and your transportation needs.

If you want a luxury type car go for the Passat - they have fixed their electrical problems that cropped up in 1999-2000 and now the Passat has one of the best reliability ratings in the industry. The Mazda3 is a compact car, so a good fun-driving choice of you want that size. The Accord is an intemediate sized, reliable car, not much personality, but will get you around in relative comfort. The Solara is a little more stylish and you can't go wrong with Toyota reliability. Agreed with above that Honda and Toyota will have the higher resale values.

the mazda's are more sporty, stiffer suspension etc. the hondas will run forever, and hold resale better. i dont know anything about toyota, and vw is hit or miss, i have seen some go forever and others at the dealership every week.
the mazda 6-5door is my favorite of the group.
