Toyota parking brake light always on?
1992 Toyota camry v6, The little red Brake light is always on wheter the pariking brake is engaged or nit any thoughts on this?
It could be an indication that one of your brake lights is out. if that isn't it, and everything seems to be working, then maybe it is time to put a piece of electrical tape over it...
some cars have that when its time to change your pad.
It's possible that your cable has snagged on something and the brake atually is always on. Does the car feel slower than it was before this started? (I've seen it happen.)
My moms Dodge Caravan had that problem...but I knew what the problem was...when I pushed the brake the pedal went to the floor, it was out of brake fluid...check your levels.
Yup, brake fluid level could be low, there could be a leak in the system, or the brake switch could be bad, too.
YOu said the light is always on when the parking brake is on?
It supposed to do that. Called an idiot light, so grandma doesnt go down the road with the rear brakes on fire from running with the parking brake on. Let the parking brake off and it goes out right? Working perfectly. |
check, to be sure the brake is off. and no drag while car is moving, and that the fluid level is right. deoes the car grind when tying to stop? get back to us!!

My '97 Tacoma does the same thing.
I've just learned to ignore it after a while. |
Mine on my car will come on for the following reasons, parking brake is on, low fluid, or the master cylinder bit the dust
I had a '95 Geo Prizm (Toyota Corolla) and the brake light stayed on until I got new brake pads, then it worked correctly.
I drive a tacoma and consider myself a pretty well versed toyota mechanic.
It is your brake fluid level. Just pop the cap, and fill it until full. The brake light will go off. Mike http://www.nc4x4.com/mike |
