What should I keep in my car trunk ?
Hey,
im a teenager, newbie, at the world of driving....I'm just wondering what do you recommend to keep in my trunk for emergencies/worst-case scenarios. I just have my spare tire in there right now.... |
a blow up doll
|
Definitely some jumper cables, maybe a small empty gas can, a pair of gloves, and an old coat.
|
In my trunk:
Jumper Cables Gallon of Gasoline Oil Flashlight First Aid Kit Spare tire Blanket Baseball Bat Ready for anything :D |
20 year old car? Make sure the spare & jack system are good. Add an old blanket, some jumper cables, maybe a quart of oil & tranny fluid. A couple road flares wouldn't hurt anything.
Can't think of much else. The days when it was handy to have a box full of tools in the trunk are pretty much gone. A cell phone is probably the best tool you can have while out on the road. |
In my trunk...
Fullsize jack... Toolset Roll of wire Electrical Tape Duct tape Hose clamps Spare set of clothes and clothes for winter All types of extra fluids, antifreeze, brake fluid, oil, tranny fluid Jumper cables Misc bolts |
At least one 12" sub and about 450 Watts of power. Oh and that other junk people mentioned.
|
One thing not to keep... a dead hooker.
|
This is off the top of my head...
There is a "bin" velcroed to the floor.. In it there is:

In my trunk I keep jumper cables, spare tire, jack and a dead body. I recommend rotating the deady body to another one every week or so. Or just until you can't take the smell anymore.
|
IMO, don't carry gasoline around in your car, very dangerous. The fumes are volatile and highly flammable and explosive with the slightest spark. That's why I'm nervous when driving with a 5gal container of race gas on my way to track days ...one day I will explode.
Good stuff already listed, plus I always carry a blanket in case an impromtu picnic opportunity arises or you want to throw it down in an open field under dark skies and lay on it with your friend and watch the stars. I'd add a lighter or dry pack of matches too. |
don't forget a couple of chocolate / granola bars ..just in case you're gonna be stranded for a while..a candle and some matchsticks wouldn't hurt either...
|
22 I don't really have a truck but I have storage under my back couch in my van, I have a spare tire that is bald and I need it out! I got jumper cables, foam tire sealer(2 cans) tow ropes tire irons, I have a baseball bat but its up front with me no use to me back there :D

I don't know about you, but I have:
-full CRAFTSMAN (stuff is amazing, you can replace it at Sears so easily) socket set with standard and metric -wrench and pliers set -screw driver set -hammer -clamps -full 120 ft. roll of 12 guage wire -wire stripper/cutter/clamper -full set of replacement fuses -foam tire sealer (agreed, this stuff is God) -car jack that can handle much more than your car (i have a 4 ton jack for a 2325 lb. car) -2 4 ton jack stands -jumper cables -flare (optional) -quart of oil -water in a can or glass bottle (anything in plastic over a long period of time = not healthy) -rope -steve -at least a few bucks in coins |

So you have no trunk space left? I can understand a 4 ton jack and a lot of the other stuff but why Jack Stands? If my car needs that much work on the side of the road I will get it towed! |
I'm 19, I keep a football, a basketball, a frisbee, a couple baseball gloves and a couple balls, a pump for balls/bike tires, and some first aid stuff. And a blanket. And a jack and spare tire.

You should get a full size pickup truck and just carry a mini-cooper in the bed of the truck, that way you always have a spare car, not just a tire. :D
|
Spare tire and jack and my 12-guage. Shells are in the glovebox.
|
Don't forget a pack of smokes and a bottle of hooch
|
hand gun, bottle of booze, lots of condoms, bong,
that should do it |

I never use anything like AAA(or CAA in Canada) I just got firends that do it for a cash price  But I drive a GMC so I never have problems :D 22 years old and only one brake down and all it was is the water pump-alternator belt broke, and I had a spare :D |
for emergencies - a small toolbox, some jumper cables and a portable air compressor - your mini-spare WILL be deflated when you get a flat tire.
|
-Small toolbox w/ sockets fit for your car, screwdrivers (large flathead and phillips), pliers, and crimping tool
-"spray can" jack -large tire iron (the one in the car WILL suck) -10,12, and 18 guage wire. -solderless (aka "splice" or "butt" connectors) for those sizes (red, blue, and yellow) -panty hose (for hoses with holes in them) -Motor Oil -Coolant/antifreeze -Tennis Racket w/ pack of balls -Fishing Pole -2 Polk/momo 10" subs -Legacy 600W amp |
gun
big sheet of plastic duct tape shovel Wait, what type of car is this? |
need a frisbee in order to roll joints on!
|
Get a roadside emergency kit, but make sure it includes things like a flashlight, flares, etc. Most automotive stores sell them.
|
I'm old, and keep some spare bricks (red masonry), a small bag of mortar, a few loaded sandbags (handy things, those), a couple of sealed battle packs of appropriate ammo, and a bunch of loaded spare magazines for the appropriate "car gun", and the serious body armor/pasgt helmet/gas mask type stuff that I don't wear daily. I also keep road flares, a couple of dozen ultra-bright cyalumes, and a "first aid" kit capable of dealing with most emergencies up to a gunshot wound, stored in a sealed, sterilized .50 cal ammo can. If I'm expecting trouble, I throw in some heavy stuff.
My wife has the same kind of first aid kit, road flares, ammo, magazines, and children's toys/supplies. She refuses to carry body armor. |
You seriously pack body armor?
No offense but where are you driving? Sadr City? Oh if you can afford it buy a full sized spare tire. That way if you have a flat far from home you don't have to worry about riding the doughnut the entire way home(and it gives you a day to be lazy about getting a tire fixed if you want to run the risk). |
Yup, the entire reason for having a trunk is for "just in case". I tend to spend a fair bit of time in downtown Norfolk and Richmond, VA. Some areas are pretty rough, and if you were in an occupation that Shakespeare advocated exterminating ("First, hang all the lawyers"), you'd be a big preparedness fan too.
