Vibrations killing my car
1992 Ford Tempo,4 cyl, 97,000
After a few days of rain. I got the itch to hunt mushrooms up at the pass. I regret that decision. The next day I noticed a clicking sound while at a stop sign. Went away after hitting the gas. Thinking I had lost some oil on the trip. The stick showed it a little low. I added 1/2 qt and a can of the good additive. Filled up with super and some gas additive to reduce pings and knocks. The clicking has gotten progressively louder every day. Thinking it was the lifter closest to the fly-wheels. I asked a mechanic how difficult it is to replace. He burst my bubble. He explained the bolt holding the cam? wheel is loose or broken. Getting to it involves dropping the engine down to provide access. At least 2 hours at $70. Any parts needed and the expected problem could push this past $200. $200 is the absolute most I can spend on this repair. I am desperate for advice. The car runs great while it it moving. The noise is embarrasing and getting worse. I use the car for pizza delivery 5 days a week. This engine problem could affect my income greatly. Thank you in advance. |
