Fucking deer ran into my car... How much $$?
Behind the door, in front of the gas tank door, right on the body line of my 2004 Civic. I'm fucking pissed, the dent isn't huge, but it is on the body line, probably about 6 inches long, give or take, Ill snag a pic sometime.
Any idea how much its going to cost? |

Well for a similar damage my friend had on his grand prix it cost about $3600...since civics are so popular parts will probably be less expensive...but maybe not considering it's foreign......don't feel so bad...my dad 1998 Cadillac got damage cause he hit a deer at 60mph and it cause $9,912 in damage which resulting in totalling the car.

Way too many variables here to determine cost. Get a pic, and we'll go from there. Depends on if anything was broken inside the door that you can't see. Also depends on if the dent can be straightened or not. If it can, it shouldn't be as bed. And, they MAY not need to paint it. If it can't be straightened, it depends on what all needs to be replaced. I hit a deer at 40mph in my 1997 Oldsmobile, head on, and it took out the hood and a foglight. I'm not bothering with it, though...the hood wrinklage is barely noticable, although the peeled back paint is.

Whacked a deer with an F-350 at 70 MPH once.... it bounced off.
Dee-Zee makes a damn good grill guard. $200 saves a lot of money on deer dings.

Yeah, I remember pounding a deer in my 1992 Olds Cutlass Supreme at 72mph. Sure, it messed up the car, but it was plenty drivable, and all the lights worked, even.

Will insurance not cover it? Last time we hit one, they paid for all the repairs...

Late last year three deer came out of the woods while I was driving along a side road at night.
I hit one dead on with the front of my truck (2001 GMC Jimmy). T-boned it good. I knocked him 10-20 feet down the road. I had slammed on the brakes when I saw them come out of the woods, but was still doing 30+ mph. The second one hit me in the drivers side door. (He T-boned me) His tail end went over the hood and off the front. The third went in behind me and missed me completely. The front impact damaged the grill and the driver's side headlight. The second deer dented the door and scratched the front, side and hood. All three deer then ran into the woods. I hit the one pretty hard, it had to have suffered some pretty good injuries. It was covered by insurance and the whole thing came to nearly $2000 in damage. I had to cover the first $500 for deductable. So the damage is in different places, but that may give you and idea on damage costs. To add to the drama of the story, my wife was 7 months pregnant at the time of the accident.

I hate deer. Personally, I've never hit any, but I've come damn close and it scares the hell out of me. Where I live, I have woods on the opposite side of the 2 way, 45mph speedlimit road. We end up with dead or injured deer in our front yard at least once a month. It really is a pain in the behind.
I've got a good deer accident story though. I wasnt involved, but rather it was a good buddy of mine. He had bought a brand new 2000 Honda S2000. He got the first one at the local Honda dealer and was happy as hell. On his way home from picking up his car, he was sitting at a stoplight. He was at a dead stop and all of a sudden, a full grown buck comes running full force from the woods and runs directly into the drivers side door and front fender. The door was dented horribly and would not open and the drivers side window was cracked, but luckily did not shatter. Damn deer ran into his car at a dead stop! Unbelievable. I felt so bad for him, he hadnt even had the car for an hour and already had to take it for repairs. |

Well talked to a body guy. About 400 bucks for me. He said thats bottomline for him, because we are friends, but like i said, it wasn't that bad.
Being 19, and going to college, I'm a bit short on cash. He tells me NYS law indicates that deer hits are comp, not collision, and I can't be harassed or have my rates raised or whatever for claiming it. Deal gets better, he will include my deductible in the estimate, and then I get it fixed for free. Now I'm exstatic. Next part of the story, is my Dad telling me I can;t claim it, because I'm on his insurance. (I never wanted to be, but my other car died, he insisted new, because he no longer wanted to work on cars all the time, and I could afford the payments, insurance on a new civic for a 19 yr old guy in NY was 6K a year. Hence his insurance, now its 3K a year) SO after a good argument, and a pretty good fight with the man, my car still has dents, and I still don't have 400 bucks. My father claims it puts him in a perilous position by letting me claim it because if he gets in an accident after that they could drop him. Logic and reason dictates that it is going to take a hell of a lot more than a 650 dollar comp claim to make that happen to an otherwise clean record, but hes stubborn, and I think it's more of a control thing then anything else. Sorry, that story was a bit of a rant, but I had to get it off the old chest. Moral of the story, whatever I save by being on a policy with parents is negated by the fact that my 3000 dollar insurance policy is more or less a registration fee, because the only ood it does me is to let me drive my car. It certinly isn't insuring the fucking thing. |
