Grease, Hands, and Soap

So, I just finished working on my scooter and my hands are covered in grease, oil, and whatever the fuck else...

How do you all get that nasty shit off your hands after a good day of wrenching?

Dish washing soap seems to work well when I don't have any Lava but...

Is there anything better... ?

Napa hand cleaner is good. Fast orange is good. I use neither though. I worked on my car a couple days ago and used regular Irish Spring bar soap , and got all the grease off quickly.

Most dish detergents and most regular soaps will work well. Female-ish soaps with lotion/aloe vera/blah blah blah don't work well... oil doesn't do well with washing off oil.

the Fast orange is really good... ive used it before... that and lava are the main ones ive used... both seem to work pretty good

pocon1 08-04-2004 05:06 PM

fast orange

Jeff 08-04-2004 05:16 PM

I've always loved fast orange, too.

merkerguitars 08-04-2004 08:00 PM

Fast orange or goop

KirStang 08-04-2004 09:20 PM

Yea, i got GOJO orange cleaner stuff...always works. Gotta love it after an oil change :)

Gas always works, and its always around.

Other than that GOJO

Peryn 08-05-2004 09:25 AM

GOJO, carb cleaner, brake kleen, LAVA... all seem to work great. But if nothing is around, dish soap or a harsher hand soap will work too, just with more scrubbing.

jdubz 08-05-2004 04:11 PM

Yes, nothing beats GOJO. The origianl smelly white shit seems to still be the best and the CHEAPEST

masterofblah 08-05-2004 05:58 PM

LAVA soap and a scrub brush!

Ilow 08-05-2004 06:52 PM

another vote for gojo fast orange, I have one of those gallon bottles under the sink. I like lava as a "final wash" after the fast orange too.

BigTruck1956 08-05-2004 06:55 PM

I use GOJO everyday at work and its just fine. Napa hand cleaner works good too. Gas really dries out my hands. Comet works too, but that stuff is really harsh.

Delvid 08-06-2004 11:29 AM

Scrubs in a bucket. A waterless hand cleaning towel that kicks ass. Cuts through anything.

yakimushi 08-06-2004 05:52 PM

Goop when its thick, liquid lava when its not too bad.

SpikeQX99 08-08-2004 12:37 AM

GOJO is awesome for taking off all sorts of crud from the body...

BoomTruck 08-10-2004 12:50 PM

Just remember, if you wash your hair with Fast Orange (Got totally soaked with hydraulic oil a few times) make sure you use the smooth formula. Pumice is a bitch to try to wash out of hair.

at work, if it's too bad, I mix whatever soap we have with some powdered car wash soap. Cuts through everything on your skin.. and maybe your skin if you leave it on too long.

Many people react to the solvents in Gojo or Fast Orange. Gojo makes "Power gold". It's a little more pricey, but works great. I have some highly sensitive customers that love the stuff.

shakran 08-10-2004 07:53 PM

i used to use Goop. Works really well. Now i do somethign even better. I made friends with my doctor and he gave me a box of surgery gloves. They don't hinder my work at all, and I don't even have to wash my hands when i'm done. It's great!

reconmike 08-11-2004 05:04 AM

The best stuff on the market is Kresto with ground almond shells, this stuff is amazing. It doesnt have the harsh solvents like the others.

indeed. GOJO and a rag is all you need to clean your hands. No water required. Keep some in your trunk just in case and you're good to go anytime.

Regular latex would probably work ok too, but I wouldn't do it with a hot engine :(

My buddies auto repair shop uses this stuff called TKO. I'm there all the time working on my car or bike. That stuff is awesome. Its not waterless, but damn, talk about getting the grease and dirt and grime off of your hands and arms quick. Its baby blue and it has these little tiny plastic scrub balls in it. I haven't found anything that works as good.

cdnjeepin 08-12-2004 05:47 AM

I have this stuff called Black Tie. It is made by a company called Excel in Arcadia, CA.

probably one of the best hand cleaners I have ever used.
