Carborator Ford Ranger
2 door 4 speed 1984 ford ranger..
the scoop.. carborator started shooting gas out the top.. problem.. bottom of carborator, once taken off, found out this shaft peice was loose. cannot rebuild if this happens solution.. get new carborator.. and the trouble begins I was told that 3 outta 5 carborators sold at parts stores dont work due to long term storage.. what should I do keep buying one till I get a winner.. or go to a junk yard.. been looking the small city i live in and the out skirts for junk fords that have a close to mine part i need also.. there is a converter that can change a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel.. if i get this i could just block off two of the chambers i hope this makes some since.. due to my lack of car knowledge er... help me.. |
Swap in a carb'd 302 V8. You'll need to beef up the front suspension, and use a Tremec 5 speed manual trans, and you'll be set!

heh.. ok i will copy and paste that and email to me dad.. he'll know what to do

wo now, hang on bud. ok we need a carb and we have money for the carb, correct? when said carb is purchased,it comes with a warranty, setting up in my opinion is nonsense, most i have ever seen are in a lot of plastic no need to worry bud! let us know bud!

I would just try the new carb from a store. Like some have said if it does have a warranty all is good and you are just dumping in time to swap them. Maybe you can just buy a good aftermarket two barrel from www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com? that way you would get some extra hp and still maintain gas mileage and have a fresh carb.

You can not convert a 2bbl to a 4bbl. You might find an adapter plate to fit a 4bbl, but you may be overcarbing your engine at that point.
There are carb rebuild kits that include all the gaskets and whatnot that rots out during long term storage. They aren't real expensive either. Don't hesitate to buy a new carb, ask if for one that hasn't been on a shelf for a long time. If the damn thing don't work, take it back. |
Sure you can. You've just got to be careful, otherwise, you are correct...you will overcarb, and that is obviously bad. Running a 650cfm carb SHOULD be OK on a mild or warmed-up 302, though. That is what I would do.

what size engine, 4cyl or 6cyl, if 6cyl motor carb off an early v-8 will fit, will have to remove most emission stuff off of motor, if that is not a problem where you live, the engine will run better and gain a few mpg.

Yuck.
I'm glad I have fuel injection and stopped worrying about engine workings (even tho I put more than a few hours in on my mustang). |
