OK Folks I need help with a belt tensioner
1) How hard is it to replace a belt tensioner in a 96 Ford Contour?
2) Can you get to it without moving the motor? 3) Torque on the hex bolt? 4) Should I attempt it myself or let someone else do it? 5) What about the Idle Pulley, is it one unit with the tensioner? 6) Can I get to it through the wheel-well? 1996 Ford Contour 4 cyl. DOHC 2.0L Thanks in advance!

A friend of mine had the same car. You have to go through the wheel well to change the serpentine belt, so I'd imagine that is the best way to get to the tensioner.
You should pick up a Haynes manual for your car at a parts store. It generally does a pretty good job of explaining those kinds of jobs, along with the proper torque specs etc. |
