Anyone commute with an electric bike?

Posted this in the General Forum and someone suggested that I post it here as well, so Here goes...Does anyone have an electric bike that they are using for commuting? I am pondering this but would like some input from other users. There are a bunch of different ones out there on the market, and I was hoping for a little feedback on them. I have 22 mile commute, one way. It takes me 30-40 minutes in the morning and 50-60 minutes on the way home. There are enough back roads and frontage roads to not need the freeway, and they have a no interest loan program available. Any input on a bike that would make that distance would be appreciated.

Is that like a Bicycle with a electric engine or something like a mini bike?

Maybe a little 2 stroke bike/scooter would be more feasible excellent gas mileage plus no need to charge the batteries.

I've been thinking about it, and as dorky as they may seem, a moped may be a good solution for your situation.

A couple of them around my town, most are Yamahas here's a link to the Yamaha site they have the models avaliable. I'm not sure if they are electric or not or if this is what you are looking for, but I hope it helps.

i'd say a scooter/vespa would be a better alternative to an electric bike.

If you get one of those, try to get an import one, the US has a 50cc restriction, they have 3x the engine overseas!
BTW I saw an electric bike thing at Target(?!) that had pedals but could be charged to go 37 miles at 14 mph for under $400.

I was thinking more along the lines of
type of electric bike. And I was really hoping for a recommendation from someone who uses one, to see if they will make the distance.

Am I seeing this correctly? You want to commute, 22 miles each way, on an electric bicycle?

Specs from those electric bicycles you linked to says they can do 15 miles without pedalling at all, on level ground. And then the battery needs to be charged for 4 hours. For a $1600 36V model.

That probably translates to <10 in hilly ground. Yeah, you can pedal, but you'll pedal for at least 12 miles. Show up to work sweaty, after 8 hours of work and tired as hell, have to pedal 12 miles again.

Are you in good shape? Do you want to save the environment? Then go for this electric bike.

Otherwise, you want a gas-powered scooter. They are in the same price range, get 100+ mpg , and can get you there faster.
