Is Fuel Injection Service worth the money at the auto mechanic?
i have a 93 Acura.
saw an ad from a local mechanic place advertising Fuel Injection Service for $19.99. never had it done on my car before. Was wondering if I should do it, or buy those additives you add to the gas tank. anyone think this is a good service? |

We charge $119.95 for a motorvac, which is a carbon cleaning system that actually attaches to the cars fuel system and removes carbon and cleans the injectors.
For $19.95 I would be very leary of this service, They are probably only going to spray down your throttle plate and add something to the fuel tank. Go out and buy Chevron Techron, it is a fuel additive that does a pretty decent job cleaning your fuel system, it should be around 8 dollars, i would run 2 consecutive bottles with 2 tank fulls of gas, that will probably be better than they were offering.

Techron
Techron is indeed good stuff, you should throw in a bottle every couple of months. Dealerships are starting to recommend it instead of all this other silliness like $100 treatments. If your injectors are clogged so bad that they need to be blown clean, then they have to be removed and then we're talking an hour of labor. Your fuel filter should take care of all the nasties in the gas, and that should be replaced yearly!! There is a lot of crap gasoline out there.

dunno about your acura, but in general a fuel induction service is a good idea. a ture service will put a fuel injector cleaning additive in the tank, but also run a de-carbonizing agent throught the throttle body and intake plenum. on gm's genIII v8 motors, derivabilites issue arise fairly quickly if the cleaning is not done at a regular basis.

I brought a car in for fuel injection service for about that price at Expressway. The idiots did something wrong, and the car would rock at idle (clogged injectors causing misses?) and somehow, the engine never got back up to the proper oil pressure, either.
