How do you crash...

...a car that nobody can even buy yet?

http://www.wreckedexotics.com/newpho...0525_001.shtml

I'm mindboggled!

I must say however that many current model SLK owners (myself not necessarily included) think it would have improved the car it the crash had managed to rip the nose completely off! :)

It may have been a prototype car from the factory that was destroyed after testing.

A friend of mine has a 1989 Corvette ZR1. That is right, 1989. It has an X serial number on the frame. Chevy and Lotus used them for testing then destroyed them in a junkyard in England. An entrepeneur found them and shipped them to the US, where the flattened cars went for huge money.

Wow some people should be shot

merkerguitars 06-09-2004 04:04 PM

Wow a wrecked car that you could actually fix it up and turn a profit!

Don't you just know there was a major "oh shit!" moment between the time the first side mirror was crushed and the when the other mirror was smashed?

I must say, the SLK is a rigid sumbitch for its size. The roof is sprung but the driver certainly didn't need to depend on his roll bar for protection.

just because they have money doesn't mean they can drive....half the best driver in the world don't have to cash to own something so nice!

Never liked the SLK, but it is a damn shame to reck one. The photo's were taken in europe, since there is a Renault Megan on the parking lot, and we all know there are no Renault's here in USA... plus the plate frame is for Euro plates.

matt_mll 06-10-2004 01:09 PM

i don't think that was the slk supercar that merc is putting out, and everyone has been talking about. I distinctly remember it having the exaust in a fish gill layout just aft of the front tires. This could just be a regular 04 model year. Still a beautiful car gone to waste.

bodypainter 06-10-2004 01:46 PM

It's an '05 SLK350, not generally available for sale yet. If it was one of the smaller engines (which are now available) it would have the Kompressor badge on the side. Some people who know much more about such things than me also assure me the disk rotors visible through the front wheel are unique to the SLK350.

You may be referring to the upcoming SLK55 which should be some hot shit indeed.

fuzyfuzer 06-10-2004 03:04 PM

they are everywhere in berlin in fact they were more common than the older style

/just got home today

castex 06-10-2004 04:27 PM

Yeah, guess what - not every car débuts in the states.
Oh and matt_mll, I think you mean SLR...An entirely different car, but just as ugly as this one even before such modifications.

bodypainter 06-10-2004 04:53 PM

The SLK's have always been available first in Europe. That was sort of my original point - this model isn't generally available anywhere yet.

GarthInPittsburgh 06-10-2004 07:06 PM

That really looks liek a photochop.. i mean... what could it have possibly done to recieve that type of dammage on ALL sides of the car... Certianly doesn't look like it rolled... so?

Why do you say that? It looks like it's been rolled to me.

MSD 06-11-2004 05:56 AM

OK, Here's what probably happened. Look at the front right rim. The tire blew, and the driver lost control and jammed on the brakes. The car subsequently plowed into a curb, snapping the rim and putting it into the condition you see here.

Due to the high speed, it rolled to the right and forward, with most of the impact of the roll being taken by the front end. This was most likely on road with gravel or sand on the side, judging by the abrasion of the front right quarter-panel. At this point, the right mirror was gone. As it came down on the left front quarter panel, it bounced (maybe a harder surface,) snapping the left mirror off.

At this point, visualize the car on its left quarter panel, with the body at about a 30° angle to the ground.

The bounce swung the tail end over and around the car, most likely pivoting counter-clokwise, where it slammed into a wall, damaging the back end, and popping the roof.

After the test driver was checked and found to be in good health, he was put into critical conditon by the car's owner's fist.

Death9099 06-11-2004 02:36 PM

That sucks for the owner.

acpower 06-12-2004 01:15 AM

dang what happened to the front right wheel? the bottom disappeared..

RaDiAn 06-15-2004 08:47 AM

gdr2004 06-16-2004 11:03 AM
