Rockford Fosgate.... your opinion?

I just got on trade a set of 4 rockford fosgate speakers. 6x9s for the back, 6.5s for the doors. I was considering doing the rest of the car in rockford since Ive already started, but I notice quite a price tag on their stuff.

So my question becomes... is the product worth their price?

I should add that at this point im primarily looking at a pair of 10" subs and an amp to run them with. 500 bucks is about my limit. If I maintain this limit, RF is out. Any suggestions on what to get without having to upp my limit, and push back my purchase date?

Because its what I know and am most comfortable with... I say go JL. You can get a set of 10W0's for around $200, box for $100-150, wiring kit for $40, and put like an e1200 amp on 'em and you'll be good to go. My opinion on Rockford is not much anymore.

Personally I hate rockford fosgate stuff...their specs are not up to my par at all.......they used to be good way back in the day....now it's cheap stuf.....I follow brandon11983 recomendations on JL subs...very nice...and you can toss alot of wattage at them. If not you can use JL subs and a massive crossfire amp...also PPI makes some good stuf.

Crossfire... eh... it seems to be good cheap stuff. PPI is shit.... ever since Team Gates left them, and they were bought out by Directed. The old stuff was fucking awesome. If I could find some of the old Pro series subs with the carbon fiber cones I'd snatch 'em up in a minute. Mate them babies to like a PC2350 amp, some Phaze Audio components..... rawr.

I'd like to upgrade my Infinity Reference speakers (6x9 3-ways in back, 6.5 components up front), which I just love, to a complete set of MB Quart speakers. Money is the problem there.

The best sub I have ever heard in my life are kicker solo-barics. (Square sub face). Even just one 8" will rock your world. I HIGHLY recomend it.

Ive heard highly of kicker...

Id also like to add that I listen to primarily older metal... AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc, and classic rock. SO i dont need huge bass, but I need a hard hit, and the sensitivity really has to be up there for me.

My friend is tellin me JL is for lots and lots of bass, otherwise I should go with something else...

But thats just him

You need to get out more, son. Square Solo's are shit. The hemispherical coned models (before the Square's) were infinitely better. Square's can fart out bass good, but musically they sound like ass.

krwlz, your friend is right to recommend JL, but for the wrong reasons. JL's can be loud if asked to, but the company is all about sound quality. Their products are designed to sound the best they can at a given price point. Anyone who knows anything about JL will tell you that they are not an SPL woofer.

On the sensitivity note, any other time I would say look for a less sensitive sub. More efficient subs tend to have a sloppier sound to them, whereas with a less efficient sub, it is harder to move, therefore giving a tighter and cleaner sound. But being limited to only $500, you can't go crazy with amp power, so a more sensitive sub is probably the answer. A W0 sub from JL will work just fine.

You may want to take a look at the Shiva by Adire Audio, too. I picked that sub for my home theater after months of going over just about all the drivers out there, and this was the one I chose. Some of the tightest, cleanest bass I'd ever heard, and that was out of a ported enclosure. SPL was enough to crack the drywall in my house. The driver works equally as well in cars.

NOT worth the price. Pioneer subs are a fraction of the price and beat Rockford's in every shoot-out in the magazines.

Best amps: Soundstream.

My limit isnt set in stone, so I can go over. However if it starts approaching 1000 bucks, Im going to buy rims instead.

What might you recomend for the wattage on those two 10" subs for my car?

ha ha. I was just kidding. I will agree that square Solo's can pound, but they are a total one note wonder and sound like shit.

That's not what really concerns me. The reason I stay away from the product is because they are a publicly traded company. The products have not been the same since. They were not what they used to be long before the Fast and the Retarded came out. The stuff used to kick ass, then it was justifyably expensive. One of my first amps was a Rockford, it was one of the last "good" ones, and that thing kicked ass

Right now I got a mix and match system that runs good powered by a Rockford Fosgate 600watt amp....I got 2 Alpine co-axil 140 watts, 2 JBL 100 watt speakers. then 2 10" JL subs(no idea the watt) all run by a Kenwood deck....I was going to by a 1000 watt JL ap but a guy at work was selling this amp for like 40 bucks...and it was brand new so I took it!

the amp has been running really good...and it doesn't heat up to much!

Stick with JL for subs and amps. They are top of the line man. You wont be able to find such nice quality, performance, and overall ability in any other company.

I just got a JL W6v2 and the JL 500/1 amp for my Audi A4 and it sounds amazing. The bass it produces sounds absolutly mesmerizing...and with the equilizer on the amp, the hwole system can be fine tuned to one's likings. Its the best man.

No you wouldn't. (or shouldn't rather) Leave the head units to those who know what they are doing, like Alpine.

- 2 100watt JBL speaker
- 2 250+watt JL Subs(10W3-D2)
- 1 Rockford Fosgate 600 Watt Amp(love it)

I like the Clarion ProAudio decks, too. Kenwood's faceplates are too "busy" or cluttered. I have a Pioneer deck, and while I know you can do plenty better, I have no complaints. I'd like a Nakamichi, or something along those lines, but I have better ways to spend my money.

There is one question that hasn't been asked, are you going for SPL or SQL?

Sound Power Level or Sound Quality Level...quite frankly, half the crap people have been spouting I would never put in my system. That's like saying Pioneer makes the best decks because 'you heard it'.

Publicity does not always equal domination.

I doubt he's aggressively going after either. To me, he just seems to want more bass, which is fine. If by publicity you mean advertising, then I would agree to a degree. I personally love JL's ad campaign. You'll never see some big titted whore holding one of their subs in an ad. Their ad's consist of a few pictures of the product being advertised, and what the industry has to say about it. Sometimes they advertise the company rather than a specific product. They have had ad's featuring their demo vehicles that always win best sound of show. Last year, they did a Pontiac Vibe with a very basic TR (entry level) system in it. They spent under $2000 on products, and the subs in particular were off the shelf subs, in JL pre-fab boxes. They won best sound of show against compaines that had poured over $50,000 into their demo vehicles. Talk about a slap in the face to other manufacturers, but it is very common for JL to do this.

Me, I go for SQL most of the time, but if I want to piss people off I crank the gain up then its SPL.
