Rides and Overhaulin
Both of these shows are on TLC on Tuesday nights. Just wondering what you all thought of them. So far I like them. They just did a whole show on rides about "Project Daisy" it was very cool. Gives you a little incite on the thoughts of the designers
Overhaulin is just a dream for some people. I mean Chip Foose tricking out your car? Way beyond cool!! If you haven't seen them check 'em out. |
Haven't seen overhaulin, but i've been thouroughly unimpressed with Rides. I saw one of their first episodes where they had the guy rebuilding/redesigning the Mustang. That one was awesome. Since then the only reason i have watched it was that there was nothing else on, or that i was hoping for another good episode. For the most part, its OK, but dissapointing at the same time.

Haven't had the chance to watch them until the end, but I hope to soon. What I did see looked really cool.........some neat projects too!
|
I've seen them both. Rides isn't very impressive, but Overhaulin is cool. Chip Foose working his magic on my ride would be awesome! I guess that is the appeal of the show, it's like winning the lottery, only instead of money you get an insane ride. Oh, and that Courtney chick is really hot too. I know if I was working in that garage I'd never get any work done since I'd be too busy drooling over her.
|
Since I started watching Overhaulin, I realized one thing.....Chip Foose is THE MAN. :D
|
Yeah i was overhaulin for courtney and her sweeet fun bags
|
I love Overhaulin'. I've been watching from the beginning, and I can't believe some of the stuff they do! I love that guy who does the flame graphics that end up looking like real fire. To have a talent like that is absolutely amazing! (and i love how its a secret as to how he actually achieves that look). And yes, i would have to agree Hondasport, Chip IS the man! :D
|
if I am ever in the position to have a car built for me it will be Chip Foose who does the job. He did a Bel-Aire for Christopher Titus that was un-fucking-believable and a T-bird for the SEMA show a couple years ago that was just subtle enough that people thought it was the new concept instead of a one-off wonder.
on topic---Rides is alright but Overhaulin' is very cool. |
I got to meet Chip Foose at SEMA last fall, and he is even cooler in person than on tv. He was spending some time at a booth and he took the time to shake everybody's hand, and chitchat with everybody while he drew a car for each person. Simply awesome.

Foose is an alright guy. Coddington on the other hand, is just as bad in real life as he is on TV. When a friend of mine dropped over $2k PER WHEEL for set of custom Boyds, you'd think they'd at least give him the backspacing he asked for.
As for a lot of these shows, most of it is "eh." Not anything a good customs shop can't/doesn't pull off on a regular basis, most of it is just big name recognition pulling off even bigger dollar builds. |
Overhaulin > Pimp my ride
|
Pimp My Ride = a joke. Not only is most of their stuff downright ugly and just a plain stupid idea (keeping a fishtank in a car, that oughtta be fun cleaning out nasty fishwater and boiled goldfish every day in the summer,) but its not even that well executed, and they do the same damn thing in every episode. We've put TV's in at the shop in every possible area you could imagine on cars, including under the hood. They need to understand, its not unique, its not innovative, and its not worthy of my time.

APC = Another piece of crap
It has been proven that most of their products are shitty |
i like in huntington beach, where chip foose is located and ive seen a few of the cars driven around.
|
American Chopper and American Hot Rod are some pretty good shows to check out as well. Entertaining personalities on these shows
 |
I like the concept of Overhaulin, but I hated the episode where they took the surfer kid's car. Not because of the car itself, but because the kid was totally spoiled and privileged, and his parents could have just paid for that. It would've been nice if they picked less fortunate people. ::shrugs:: what can you do.

I thought the same thing. Also found it kind of offensive that he was swearing right in front of his parents. I did like the Ian Zerring episode. That one was funny :D |
both shows kick azz, but I really like Pimp My Ride, the changes they make are more realistic, just paint, rims, interior. No crazy chopping and body changing that is too expensive that you can not afford to have done to your car like Overhaulin
|
A lot of the things they do on Pimp my ride cost over 20k, how ya gonna afford that?
aAso overhaulin actually does modifications that involve the engine and other things to improve performance. Though I am African American and one of the targets of bling bling icedawg styllez fuck performance dawg staus. I'd rather have a heavily modded stock looking car that runs 11s or 10s in the quarter than some flashy ass car with rims, paint, and interior etc. mods that will only hinder performance. I love horsepower and just about anything that can improve performance. Soooo, while the afforementioned cars look good in some cases (sans the ricers), what else is to be said about them? Nothing, after the novelty of those kind of cars wears off, you wont enjoy them as much. With performance, you can feel it anytime, not just when your in the middle of a crowd full of impressionable teenagers and idiots who dropped out of school. You can be by yourself, at anytime to enjoy it. *gets off soapbox* |
