Working at a high scale resort here in AZ, I see numerous amounts of nice cars. I remember living in the High Desert of CA and getting all excited when we would see any type of Mercedes. I remember, right when I moved, that an NSX had just moved into town. Anyway, so I work in a resort and I have helped with valet service every once in a while. I've seen lots of BMW's and Mercedes (including AMG models), sat in a Lambo once, tons of Ferrari’s, a BMW Z8, Corvettes, Bentleys, Vipers, Porsches, and Rolls. I wish that I had a digital camera during the last three years that I have worked here. Now I will be working with my brother at his company and driving the company cars, 2 '99 Corvette C5's and a Porsche Carrera. Woot!

I live in LA, so "rare" sports cars are pretty abundant.

Rarest I've seen?

A nice yellow Enzo on Coldwater and Ventura. I screamed. The other non-car enthusiasts in my car thought I was having a heart attack.

About 15 Murcielagos in the past year (tried to get a black one on 22s to race me in my stock G35 so I could hear it let loose in person. Succeeded and was killed thoroughly, but i think I busted in my pants when i heard that V12 scream with my windows open.).

There are a couple Maseratis here and there. Seems like i see Ferraris at least every 2 weeks or so. Porsches and BMWs are a dime a dozen, as are those AMGs, but they're still all amazing cars, so it's quite fun to drive through the Hills of Beverly just to watch them go by.

However, it's the WORST when you see somebody driving a car fast enough to break the highway speed limit in 4 seconds or less traveling 5 mph under the speed limit. While I am an advocate of safe driving (most of the time), I can't help but be frustrated at putting a muzzle on beasts like that.

Was in New York the past weekend, and right next to me a Rolls Royce Phantom 2004 rolled up. It was definetly a site to see.

BTW has anybody seen a VW Phaeton on the road, I personally have not come across any.

yeah, I saw a Phaeton about two weeks ago outside of Boston, pretty nice looking, but I always feel like they're a little over their head competing with the BMW's and Mercedes of the world. It's a damn impressive drivetrain, though, from what I've read.

In NYC I saw a Maybach just outside of the Nasdaq center.

on 57th street the other week I saw one of these...with a GIANT dump truck right behind it. He kept about 2 car lengths behind this SMART car because he could not see it under his hood.

I was absolutely astonished to see a beautiful silver Gallardo drive right in front of our apartment about 10 minutes ago. I sat there in awe, jaw on the floor, exposing partially chewed bratwurst in my mouth. It had an odd sound to it, a noticeable blowing sound, and then it finally accelerated away.

Lol @ that smart - they are so common over here (in the UK) now. When I first saw one, kinda thought it was cool, but quickly realised they are an overpriced adults version of a Little Tikes kiddy car.

What is nice on the smarts is how much kit you can option on them ... to the point of almost doubling the price by just adding on a nice set of wheels.

I saw a Ferrari F50 several years back in a quiet little town in the north west .... I had just come out of the newsagents in this sleepy little (cheap, must say cheap, 'cos no-one in the place really had much money) town, to see an F50 come cruising down the road to stop at the lights in front of me. I missed more than just a few breaths.

Now that looked seriously good in person.

The Smart definitely has a place in the market (at least in the UK). Parking is hardly ever a problem for them. You get pretty good mileage out of them (50+ mpg out of a petrol ain't too bad).

My only problem with them is how they handle an accident. You have practically no crumple zones. Which scares the living crap out of me.

Choskins - does that Corvette come with the Hooters girls each time you see it????

Well its not the rarest in this thread, however living in a country with only 4 million people, with a size smaller than all of the states of the US, in a town with aobut 150,000 people. You kinda take what you can get.

The best we can get in my town is this
http://www.odt.co.nz/cgi-bin/search-...a&DB=Editorial

Its driven past me twice as ive been on foot and my god, the engine has to be heard to be believed. This car tells you what its all about right from the first second it comes into earshot and it looks the part too.

Definitely made my day both times

I disagree. The worst is some 60-year old guy, with a huge retirement fund, who decides a Ferrari 360 Modena is the perfect to learn how to drive a manual in... I swear to God, the noises coming from that transmission almost made me cry...she was in sooo much pain...

Not exceedingly rare but still a nice ride.

Saw a Murceilago in my town, which only has 15,000 people living in it, I think it might have been an out of towner. Also around town are the usual, Viper, Prowler, Vette, SVT Mustangs, NSX, oh and like an 89 Ferrari 328. None are really rare, except the Murcielago.

The rarest car ive seen on the road would be a Ferrari, ive never seen one in real life until then, and wow, those are loud, just idle. Come to think of it, ive actally seen a lot of rare cars, for illinois. Ive seen a Viper parked outside a gym, a Lotus on the road, an NSX, a Shelby, a lamborgihini diablo on the street, and a Supra in Chinatown.

I live in Nevada for a while, so I've seen lots of Ferraris and Lamborgihinis. The rarest car I've seen in the US was when I got lost on Long Island, NY and saw an imported Skyline. One of the few times I didn't have my fricken camera. I was sure it was not a 240SX conversion because the steering wheel was on the wrong side.

I've seen the same Acura NSX in the area twice now. It's black and looks nice, but I'm not a big fan of the car personally.

We went to Florida a few winters ago, and the Miami Beach area has tons of fine rides. We visited a dealer there and they had Lotuses and Porsches on the lot. Inside they had one of the purple Lamborghini Jotas, Vanilla Ice's white Porsche, a few Bentleys, and some Ferraris.

While at Virginia Beach I saw an Aston Martin DB7, and one of the doctors at a local hospital drives a Lexus SC, which I think is really nice.

Lastly, in the parking lot at work there is occasionally an orange Nissan Z, and while they aren't rare or super-expensive, they are easily one of my favorite cars right now.

About 1 week ago, I saw one of these:

It was a Lamborghini Diablo SV, but it was more of a purple metallic color. The sound that was comming from that thing was just orgasmic.

It also had a cop car following it since in my state you cannot have cars that low to the ground.

The key important fact of this is that where I live, anything better then your average BMW is impressive. Tons of muscle cars tho.

I don't live in a large city, so when I saw one of these in front of the health club I belong to, I nearly crapped. Belongs to a 'personal injury' lawyer. In black, totally gorgeous.

And a few months ago I saw one of these a mile from my house and I think I've seen it a few more times. Also in black. Also gorgeous.

Also have driven my boss' M5 a few years ago and more recently his AMG E55. He has ordered a Corvette C6. He changes cars about once a year. Can't wait to drive the Vette.
