Factory Installed GPS vs. Visor mount
I used the Magellan NAV NeverLost system when I rented a car in FL the other week. it was awesome because I didn't know where we were going very well, and I was traveling from Tampa to Gainesville to Sarasota to Port Charlotte.
It kept very good tabs on where I was and how to get to where I wanted to go. Not always the most direct route, but I never got lost. It's a bit expensive still, installed in the MINI it's a US$1400 deal. Magellan's top end system is about the same but you can take it from car to car. Anyone have any experience with these? I only used it for a weekend and I find it like a Tivo, I don't think I am going to be able to live without it.

If you're computer inclined, you can build a PC with in-dash touchscreen gps navigation for considerably less than that.

Old thread, not sure if anyone is still interested?
Anyway, recently picked up a Garmin Streetpilot c330. Was actually in Vancouver BC on customer visits and was having a hell of a time getting around. Very confusuing place with too many briges etc. So I popped in to Best Buy and picked this thing up thinking I could return it before heading back to Toronto. Once installed I was sold! Was working 2 minutes out of the box. Only two controls, on/off and volume. the rest is all done by touch screen. Paid $699.00 Canadian. Highly recommend for those that need portable in-car navigation. |

I ended up buying a Magellan Roadmate 700 with North American and European maps. Wonderful when we went to Spain in Feb 2005 and all the other places we travelled to in the US during the year.
