21st Birthday for my Celica.

My Toyota Celica turned 21 on Saturday. I picked it up on March 20, 1983 from Schaumburg Toyota in Schaumburg, IL. I celebrated this year by replacing the water pump on it. It still runs great but all those Wisconsin winters have taken a toll on the body.

My Celica is used mostly for commuting to work now (~5000 mi. per year) and has 140,800 miles on it. There are many cars I could have bought back then that wouldn't have lasted this long or that I would be sick of driving but I still like driving this one after all those years. It's been a great car for me.

Is anyone else the original owner of an old (20+ years) car? If so, how's it doing? Do you still drive it regularly?

I got a 1982 chevy G20 RV style van with a 350 and Starcraft kit....It interior is beat up but still looks ok, and the engine needs a Cam, Carb(rebuild) and a tune-up next week:)

also needs another body job, seeing this winter I kinda hit a pole and smashed the right front fender in a little and the bumper is smashed also.

but the thing is it still runs good.:D

but Im getting a new car with in the next 3 weeks

Surprisingly, my car has never been dented. It is pretty rusty though, especially in the rear half.

Gotta love those old toyota's my old high school band teacher had one that he had about 450,000 miles on it and the only thing he changed where timing belts, filters and oil.

I got an 83 Cougar, been stored the last couple of years, it only has 72,000KM, not a scratch, dent, nothing on it, just waiting for me to get older, and the cash to pull the little 6 cyl. out of it and pop in a 12, along with some other extras. Car still runs great just started it on the weekend, I hate most American cars but I love my Cougar

Damn, my car isn't even 2 years old and I'm dealing it off... I'm using my 'ADD' card to explain this one.

Sorry alittle off topic, but, is it sell-i-ka or sa-leak-a?

Peryn 03-24-2004 01:03 PM

sell-i-ka

Not quite 20 years old yet, but it should last that long. Got an 87 Cherokee (only 17 yrs old, not 20). 253k miles on it. Still a daily driver, and when i have the gas, i take it out to the trails. Engine and powertrain have been rock solid since the day we got it. Sadly though, looks like its time for upper radiator hose and water pump soon. Interior is in damn good condition given its age, and overall the car is in pretty good shape. No complaints with it.

My Toyota has a timing chain so I haven't had to worry about replacing that. The things that I can recall replacing (besides maintenance things like tires, brakes, oil, batteries, etc.) are the alternator, a power steering hose, the clutch slave cylinder, the radiator and now the water pump. Not too bad for 21 years.

WEll my van séance new has had a New Engine the original owner blew the 305 up so he dropped a 350 in it. 3 Alternator's, 2 fuel pumps, 2 carbs(current one rebuilt once also), 4 starters, to remains, 6 u-joints(can't grease the rear one so you drive it till it starts to go), 2 tranies, and a new set of rear axle's. There is no A/C:)

I think thats all:hmm:
