Question on modding Crown Vic
As I posted in a previous thread, my Focus and I got into a pretty bad accident on Monday. Now, I'm forced to find another daily driver that isn't exotic - they're just for show.
Anyways, I was thinking about getting an old Crown Vic Police Interceptor, or maybe even just a Lincoln Town Car. I want something comfy for long trips. Now, I know that the 4.6L V8 in those cars is the same as the engine in the Mustang GT. The question here: do you guys think that performance engine mods made for the Mustang would work on the Crown Vic engine. I'm talking about stuff like a turbo or throttle body, something that would bolt directly on to the engine body. I can't see why they wouldn't - it's the same base setup. The only difference is how the engine is tuned (GT and Interceptor have 260hp, the regular Crown Vic and Lincoln only in the 239 area). Discuss. |
Yes, it is the same basic engine and there's a lot you can do to the 4.6 from improved intakes to supercharger kits. Do a few searches, there are a lot of forums out there for the modular 4.6 and the Panther (Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car) chassis.
You could also get the SOHC 205hp 4.6 in the 94-97 Thunderbird/Cougar and a 280hp DOHC version in the 93-98 Mark VIII. I'd highly recommend checking those out (especially the Mark) if having 2 doors isn't a problem. |
I might get the Mark...but they're so damn ugly
