Best price for a clutch job?
Does anyone know any places that have good prices on clutch jobs, preferably with free towing to the place, my passat's clutch blew out (think it actually exploded) and I need to get it fixed soon, but I don't want to pay too much. Anyone know about any, or what I should be looking at, I've got quotes from $400-$600 to get it fixed AAMCO with free towing. Any better prices you guys know about?

No one can answer without knowing your location, phathom.
VW clutch parts won't be cheap, and I've never met anyone claiming that they were easy to work on. What model year? which engine? Were the hydraulics damaged?

400-600 sounds good to me. I am basing that on a quoat of 800-1000 for an AWD talon. I would make sure that you call around first thouhg. But one thing is that I did my clutch my self for about 300 in parts, but I also upgraded to better racing parts.

I wholesale that clutch kit for $275.00 US. Shop mark-up and labor puts you close to $600.00, easy. If they do you a good job, the price seems more than fair.

I have a friend in the portland area who could probably do the work for you for a good price. He's a good guy, it just depends on if he has the time. I'll show him this thread.
I'm actually probably going down to visit him this friday to bring him some lower compression pistons and other parts for a spare motor we're going to build up and drop in his car this weekend (assuming all the parts come in). hopefully your bellhousing isn't damaged, that can get pricey.

I can't remember off the top of my head if the old 2.0's and 1.8's use the same clutch. Also, didn't the 83-92 Jettas use a cable, not hydraulics?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2469146496 It's 80 bucks. Tack on $25 for 2-day shipping and you're just over a hundred bucks. |

The older 1.8's used a cable, as did the Jetta 2.0. The Passat was a different system, though. That ebay clutch won't work.
