anyone who has ever worked at a dealership, please read

today I picked up an application for employment from the local Honda (cars, not motorcycles) dealership. the position they are looking to fill is a parts counter specialist, which is something I have done before, just not at a dealer. what I want to know is if any of you with dealer experience have an idea what the parts guys there made. I am trying to get a feel for how much to ask for on an hourly basis.

please include the type of dealer (Honda, Chevy, Ford, etc) and the city and state in which the dealer was located.

thanks for any info you can give.

I do spare parts for Ford, but in Australia.
last dealership i was in was roughly $32,000 before tax in AU dollars not too sure how it would compare in america.
I think hourly i was getting about $14.50

1 AUD is about 0.80 USD so an equivilent in USD would be a little under $26,000.

I was a parts manager for about 10 years and some of my best guys were lucky to made 9 or 10 bucks an hour. Very few made this much. This was in Ky and the dealership felt it was the area "average" to pay someone with experience. I say they were just tightasses but....I've talked to dealership all over the country and the pay went from $7 to $19 per hour. The pay will vary a lot depending on location, volume, comm. package, ect. These were all Ford, Chevy and Chrysler dealerships. Hope this helps.

When i worked at a Dodge Dealer it was something lke 8 starting then within 2 years you could be up to 15 dollars an hour, this is also Canadian Wages!

As a parts manager in So Cal I paid my guys $2500 to start. They had no experience in the dealership but had years in the local auto parts stores.

From what I've see and gotten paid in the past $2000 is the going average rate for entry level in some dealerships regaurdless of experience but someone that has a good background and reputation can bring in about 3k to $4500 a month.
