all this mph talk is confusing me.

i think i stupidly went about 120kph in a 60kph zone a few times...

and i did manage to hit 170kph in 100kph highway.

but thats about all i've done (and am willing to do)

i think that puts me in the 25-40 category (in mph)

DDDDave 02-14-2004 10:25 AM

235kph on the Auto Bahn from Garmisch to Munich.

But hey, "It's a rental"

phathom 02-15-2004 08:01 PM

For a while in my 92 VW Passat GL 4dr 2.0 constantly broke 140 racing 80s camaros and 90s toyotas hondas ect. on the freeway, that thing hauls for stock, smoked the hell out of a lot of jap imports and american cars off the light and on the freeway. Ended up getting a ticket for going 76 in a 55 when I was doing 100 right before I saw the cop and got it down thanks to braking and downshifting $175 ticket for that one, After that I don't push it past 70 anymore, especially since cops around here are dicks now and drive camaros so you know your not gonna out run em in a little 4 banger against a Police Interceptor Camaro, they got me in my mustang for an "improper turn" because I turned out from a narrow street to a main street wide because I didn't want to jump the curb. Still waiting for the court date on that one. Think it was something about the Mustang Camaro Rivalry, and I was on the losing end of the Ford Chevy Battle lol. Ah well, no more speeding for me for a while, driving like grandma now, cuz 3 tickets and your out here so whew.

BonneFan 02-15-2004 09:47 PM

140 mph or 235ish kph in my Aurora equipped with the Autobahn package...

V8 is great !

-z3r0- 02-15-2004 11:29 PM

Usually 25 - 40, only when late tho :P ;)

PDOUBLEOP 02-16-2004 05:39 AM

90 in a 35 zone(in 1st gear) 160 in a 55 (mph) on my two-wheeler. I got out of it before it killed me.

3zos 02-18-2004 09:17 AM

95 on a winding 35 road in a friends '02 M5, 140+ in my stock '98 Saab 9000 screwing with a ricer :P thing had too much torque for the poor guy on the incline (hit 127 by the top of the hill). Just last week 130 racing an A4, ran out of road. Then a truly lovely occurance this past monday night, 65 in a 35 and ticketed. i are the screwed, mayors court on monday :p

anyone have any advice for ways of getting out of points put on license? IE offer to pay fees/remedial driving school/community service? will do anything to keep my f'ing license at this point.

timbo 09-10-2004 11:01 PM

118 in a 55.. in a Plymouth Grand Voyager (downhill)

Rdr4evr 09-10-2004 11:07 PM

110 in a 65 is the fastest I've gone....because my pathetic car can not handle more than that. Im surprised my engine didn't explode. Once I get a Z though, its on.

albazeroex 09-10-2004 11:15 PM

120+ around 5500rpm in my accord

155+ cant remember the rpms it was in my friend's 04 sti wrx :D

both were on the freeway

roads i dont go very fast mostly 10+ over speed limit, because where i live and commute, the cops pratically live on the street :hmm:

pinion 09-11-2004 12:27 AM

Over 100 in a 25 on a bike - I don't recommend this :)
Seen 140ish on the highway a few times.
Pulled over once at 95 in a 65 and accelerating, the stop lasted less than two minutes and I was asked that I "try and keep my speed down" :D

Jackebear 09-11-2004 08:20 AM

When I was driving, 155 mph in a 55 zone in the middle of the night and when I was a passenger, 160 mph in a 55 zone again late a night and I was in the back seat shitting myself.

TheClarkster 09-11-2004 02:36 PM

Hmph, apparently my Tacoma doesn't go faster than 110.
But that was on flat land. That puts me at 45 mph over the speed limit. Fast enough for a 4 banger!

Willravel 09-11-2004 06:13 PM

'92 tempo - 113 mph
heavely modded '90 SHO (body kit, v8 conversion +)- 143 mph est.
'90 civic with b18 and turbo and much more - 132 mph
'94 Escort std. - 124 mph
all 65 limit
all scary, but fun as hell

Asuka{eve} 09-11-2004 07:07 PM

I have done 70mph in a 70mph zone........

While riding in a friends car I experience 100mph in a 60 zone.

LOL 70 must be km/ph

I have done 120 in a 60 zone once....but I know where the cops hide...and thats without a scanner

2sheds 09-12-2004 03:34 PM

135 (indicated) on a yamaha vmax. it was on loop 8 in houston, after a part had been completed, but before it was open so i had a brand new stretch of pavement all to myself.

exizldelfuego 09-12-2004 04:35 PM

Cruising 120 MPH in a 65MPH zone in my grandfather's '96 VandenPlas Jag. Gotta love those long, empty, New Mexican highways. There was an animal on the road at one point, a snake of some sort (probably rattle or bull) whipping around wickedly fast, or so it seemed from my vantage point.

Big Cholla 09-12-2004 04:35 PM

155 on a Harley modified for road racing on a 65 mph highway. Don't laugh. It was a long time ago and we had to check out the carburetion before the big race the next weekend.

liberator-44 09-15-2004 10:46 AM

125ish in my 911 and about 95 on my FXDX - both in a 60 MPH zone.

Pathetic isn't it?

Dane Bramage 09-15-2004 12:15 PM

110 in a Mercury Cougar on I-10 in LA trying to get to the Airport (65 Zone).

~105 in my WRX on interstate (55 Limit). She had lots of room left, but I too am fearful of the cops. I like to drive too much to loose my license.

DB.

hcg 09-16-2004 06:47 AM

110 in a 55, driving a 2005 BMW 545i Manual in 4th out of 6 gears...the car was bored with this speed.

cbrider 09-16-2004 07:20 AM

145ish on my cb1000 in the desert outside of san diego. 175 on a old ninja 1100 north of sacromento. bikes rule!

netnut 09-16-2004 09:54 AM

125 or somewhere there abouts in a 35 industrial area. On a Ninja of my friend's. Went through 5 gears in the space of about 1/4 mile and looked down and the speedo, OHH S**T! Did not mean to do that. Needless to say I was excited, but a little shaken. I like speed, but at the rate those bikes accell/decell, I can see why stupid kids get killed on them so often. I have been driving since I was 8 so I know how to handle myself at speed. They give you a false sense of security. But like the old saying goes, "Speed does not kill, it is the sudden stop".

Scrub0 09-16-2004 11:29 PM

~140 km/h in a 50 zone
180 km/h in a 90 zone

both in my 94 oldsmobile cutlass sedan :O

YakuzaStinger 09-19-2004 07:50 AM

driving 150 in my supra in a 55 mph zone riding 202 in my cousin cobra mustang build up 55mph zone that was a lil scary i shouldnt say it was a 55 zone it was a closed highway being built every friday saturday nite we had races down there friends coming from far and wide to play even the security down there was playing but i still do 140+ in 55 zones

Unleashed 09-19-2004 08:02 AM

130 in a Merc CLK320.

Krycheck 09-19-2004 09:31 PM

I took my '99 C280 to 120 this morning for about 2 min :D

Caught up to traffic so I let off.

castex 09-20-2004 03:24 AM

You let off? Were you alone in the car? Did you roll down a window? Blame the dog?
Sorry, I'll shut up:)

R3d 09-20-2004 08:26 AM

my own car.. was goin 160km/h (in canada :( ) when i was visitin my gf in new york her dad took me for a ride in their enzo and we were goin about 170-180mph

castex 09-20-2004 11:49 AM

Marry that girl!

tspikes51 09-22-2004 10:59 AM

You guys will love this. I clocked 105 in a 55 in my 92' Ford Escort wag. It's completely stock, with the 1.9L DOHC. I also enjoy driving up and down Main Street (a 25 mph zone) at odd hours going 70 every once in a while.

Cycler 10-05-2004 05:21 PM

Shown 164+ 2004 Yamaha R1. Kinda hard to hold on at that speed.

MageB420666 10-05-2004 05:56 PM

I got a 96 mazda Protege up to 117 on the interstate, limit was 70. I think it had a 1.5L DOHC. Stock, nothing done to it. I also did about 85 in a 30, the cop only clocked me at 61 cause I had time to hit the brakes before he got a reading.

mlobo 10-07-2004 01:55 PM

155 indicated, 65 zone, '02 M Coupe. (BMWs are notoriously optimistic, actual was probably 140)

170 indicated, no idea of limit, friend's CBR900. (Accurate? Who knows? Felt like about 200)

Got pulled whilst doing 125ish. No radar, no ticket. Car's name from then on? "Lucky"

My first post ever - figures this would be the topic!

mirevolver 10-07-2004 02:08 PM

240 Kmph, (approx 150 mph) A 2002 Mercedes and no, I wasn't speeding since I was on the German Autobahn at the time.

And it was Autobahn 33, between Osnabrück and Bielefeld.

-Aaron- 10-07-2004 08:47 PM

105 in a Plymouth Voyager .. I635 around Dallas (limit is 65 mph).. never will go that fast in a car not made for it...

136 with the top down on a 96 Mustang GT Convertible on George Bush... jump for a jaunt at 100-115 on I635 or I75 from time to time to unwind.

On two separate occaisions, piled four girls (friends from work both times) in and took them for a little ride around 120 with the top down. First time one of the girls got out and complained she couldn't feel her tits...

Yeah, I'm immature occaisionally. That stuff is so HS. I admit it. Its still fun though.

FlatLand Flyer 10-07-2004 10:16 PM

117 mph going downhill on I-90 in Spokane, WA in a stock '95 Dodge Ram Sport 4X4. Had to slow down due to traffic. it wa sa 60 mph zone.

105 in the same Ram racing a 90's Thunderbird in a 45 zone. It was late.

75 mph on a waverunner. Going that fast on water is a cool feeling.

anon85pd 10-08-2004 09:46 PM

131mph on I95, in a stock 98 prelude, was still pulling, but I was pullin on traffic. :(

CunningLinguist 10-10-2004 12:15 PM

Probably the single dumbest thing I've ever done in my life, but it was hard to resist... I topped 4th in the VR4 and shifted to 5th staying in it for a bit. I was in the left lane, the foxbody Mustang was in the right lane a few cars back and normal traffic was in the middle lane. I'm guessing that I hit 150. The top of 4th would have been 140 but I was concentrating too much on traffic to look closely.

DEI37 10-10-2004 01:53 PM

I have been:

1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.4 DOHC - 118mph, governed (65mph)
2004 Nissan Titan XC - 112mph, governed (55mph)
1997 Olds Cutlass Supreme - 108mph, governed (65mph)
2000 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 - 173mph, aero governed (65mph)
1969 Chevrolet 1/2 ton - 211mph, power governed (65mph)
- This truck was purpose built with a 632CID V8, supercharged, fuel injected, and all sorts of other stuff. Made to go fast, and go fast it did. It dyno'd at 997RWHP...not my truck, but it was a blast to drive.

The above listed Olds has plans to turn it in to a 165mph car. Engine's in the garage, and the plans are in my head. Here's to hoping!

Scooby 10-12-2004 02:45 AM

About 150 mph on 80 mph highway with my '97 Honda Civic SiR

About 193 mph on 80 mph highway with '94 Audi RS2. In Audi I was just a passenger.

CunningLinguist 10-12-2004 04:55 AM

I dunno... I think both cars have very optemistic speedometers.

nospam 10-12-2004 11:14 AM

140 in my brothers Ford SHO. Man that was a great sleeper car!

Mizizing 10-12-2004 12:14 PM

Showing pic because many people aren't familiar with the Opel GT. Way back in the Seventies I was comfortable running it between 140 and 150. Because of the hood shape, the faster you went, the heavier it bacame. Drive a '99 Miata now, but to me at least it starts getting light a little over 100.

bad_husband 10-13-2004 07:27 AM

When I was 18 I pushed my dads 1995 Impala SS up to 155mph in a 65. One of the more stupid thing I've done but what a rush.

Just bought a '96 Cutlass Supreme. I love it!!! It's like having all the things that nobody had in cars until 1999 (except Mercedes) in an older car. Let me know how that turns out.

RCR 05-04-2005 06:41 AM

Fastest you have ever been/driven?

360kmh(223mph), went so fast the speedo needle reset at 345kmh and then continued to climb from 0, we saw 15kmh :hmm:

BigBen 05-04-2005 07:05 AM

Wow. I can't beat that.

I went 225 on an old piece-of-shit 82 Honda Sabre motorcycle. It could have gone faster, but logic kicked in and my brain said to my right wrist: "How long to you think these old cracked tires will last at this speed? Oh... Well, what do you think will happen at this speed when one of these tires comes apart? Oh..."

And then I slowed down to about 150. Then a wasp hit my neck, and I just about died anyway. Good times!

Tech 05-04-2005 08:27 AM

i assume "we" means you weren't on a motorcycle... what did you see 223 in?

fastest i've gone... about 570 mph... boeing ;)

ratbastid 05-04-2005 08:27 AM

170 in a Porsche 911 Turbo at 2:30 am on a public freeway. My friend, who's a rally driver, was at the wheel, I was in the passenger seat.

At about 155, the turbo dumps a bunch of fuel which ignites in the exhaust, resulting in a very nice jet of flame belching 10 to 15 feet out the tailpipe. Which neither of us knew, though he remembered it after the fact. There we are, letting this car out, and suddenly the trees all around us are reflecting flashes of yellow light... We were both pretty sure we were busted. Turns out it was just our AFTERBURNER!

IanSturgill 05-04-2005 11:49 AM

I did 146 in a Lexus Soarer, 85 in my 88 voyager, 125 in a silverado, 120 in a suburban, 145 in a Lexus LS400, 85 in a s-10 Blazer, 100 in my S-10 and 105 in an escort wagon.
I own a radar detector.

cyrnel 05-04-2005 12:49 PM

173 indicated in a 35. Sounds worse than it was. Farm road, miles of visibility, no driveways. Still, a 1-lane road feels mighty narrow at that clip.

Martian 05-04-2005 02:13 PM

Driving the 402 between London and Sarnia late at night, you're alone with your thoughts. That's where I buried the needle in my car for the first time. My speedo reads up to 200 kmh (120 mph) and I still had a few extra rpm past that.

bodypainter 05-04-2005 03:36 PM

I ain't naming names but there's some stank on some of these posts.

I've had my SLK at 125 and my NSX at 140, both for very brief amounts of time. Both cars still had plenty left.

todd 05-04-2005 06:34 PM

Fastest i've gone in my car is...95 mph :( In a 60.
But around my neighborhood where it's 25 I usually go at least 45, one time I went 55.
But I drive a '00 Saturn SL2, so I guess thats pretty good considering my car. It's actually a lot quicker than you'd expect for a Saturn.

I've yet to get a ticket, because I have a radar detector that always works well.

lemurlad 05-05-2005 02:32 PM

160 in a Dodge Charger with a 318 (smallest engine they made) on the I-70 late at night. Speedometer went to 180. Never again. The brakes don't seem to work at that speed; thank God there are no curves on that highway between Columbus Ohio & Denver CO.

maverick750 05-08-2005 03:07 PM

The fastest that i can remember going was 140 on an older Kawasaki when i was about 14. That was one of the scariest rides i have ever been on.

StanT 05-08-2005 03:22 PM

135mph on my modified 1998 Honda Valkyrie, the bike handled fine and had plenty more; but my helmet started to get squirrely.

Chuckles 05-08-2005 09:46 PM

about 145 in a 2001 mustang bullitt gt on I-5. Also did it again then up in oregon, had some fun times. Flew by a cop going at that speed too, luckily he couldn't get over to our side of the road.

tommylee02 05-08-2005 11:28 PM

140 in a BMW Z3 with the top down on the way to Vegas, it's surprising how fast you come up on someone doin' 70!
130 in a BMW 5 series from downtown Santa Barbara to Goleta. Usually 20 minutes, this time 6! A little drunk (and stupid). Lucky for me I got a ticket (wet wreckless ... damn lying cops) the following weekend, ending any and all stupid driving that I have done in over 5 years! YAY ME!

~185 in a 100 (thats ~115 in a 62 for you imperialists).
Funny that I routinely go 130 km/h on the freeway and I've had but one ticket and one accident, both at less then 30 km/h.

140 km/h in my last car, that was it's top speed.

Damn that makes my paltry 170 mph indicated look slow.

334 = 207
325 = 201

I had to get a friend to the hospital and got up to 160 mph. I would only do that in an emergancy though, I was scared to death!

Hardknock 05-18-2005 07:16 PM

I went 105 in a 65 on the highway back home in Alaska once.

That would have been one hell of a ticket.

110 in a 45 with my old truck
120 in a 55 with my car ( unfortunately it doesnt go too much faster than that. :( ... then again it only has 130hp )

105 in a 25, that road had no business being 25 mph

I think it should be clarified for those who aren't so used to bikes that this will only work if you're on a sport bike. If you're on a chopper or cruiser, you'll probably just get a bigger ticket and possibly charged with evading arrest.

Also, after getting new tires (effectively recalibrating the speedometer according to one of those roadside speed display things,) I tried on the highway and discovered that my car shuts off the injectors at 110. My initial report of 116 was a bit high.

Cartuni 05-27-2005 06:42 PM

Are many women contributing to this thread? Here’s mine:

Took my parent’s GTO out on a back road two weeks after getting my driver’s license, and went 100mph just to see what it was like (exhilarating!)

Went 130mph (as a passenger) twice – once in Shelby Cobra (OMIGAWD that was a cool car), and once in a Nissan 350Z.

Went 110mph on the back of a Harley roadster.

Then I rolled a VW bug going about 70-80 (tire blew) and lost all desire to ever go fast again.

JeremyS 05-28-2005 07:50 AM

About 175.

http://www.youluz.com/dls/pafiledb.p...download&id=17

( BTW, the video is very shaky LOL )

I think that video only shows around 155 or, but, so at some point during that, we managed to get up to 175ish.

I've been 145+ countless amount of times racing.

Don't do it so much anymore. I've gotten to be kind of a wussy, or...smart? :hmm:

stingc 05-28-2005 12:32 PM

One of my old buddies was doing around 150mph on his hyabusa in a school zone under construction, proceeded to wreck, breaking every bone in the upper half of his body, 10 years in prison, some huge ass fine and now he can pop both his entire hand / wrist out of socket so it drops like 2 inches down from his arm. its Grrrrreat!

So he gets a stiffer penalty for the construction zone and the school zone. It's like the traffic violation equivalent of a triple word score!

I'm clearly not against going fast, but it's kind of important to know the time and place. Doing 180 km/h on an abandoned highway at 2 am, good idea. Doing 180 km/h down main street at noon, bad idea.
