when i first get a car, i'll try each type and see which one the car likes better, based on gas mileage and performance. and then i'll only use one kind after that's been determined. my 98 civic ran best on cheveron 87. my 98 chevy 1500 silverado pick-up runs best on 76 89 octane. and my '02 TL runs best on mobil 91. the TL actually requires 91, btw. otherwise i'd use a different octane, heh.

Wawa...the gas truck with the red steer head stuck on the side of the tanker( Iseen that one time they had been filling the wawa tanks). Does it matter? Is it true that all gasoline has to meet a federal standard. Or is that misleading? I do try to stick to the newer gas stations....Better tanksin the ground= no water in the gas.

pinging is also known as predetonation. It's when the fuel/air mixture burns before it's supposed to, when the cylinder is still on it's way up. This can cause severe engine damage.

Upgrading your octane helps because the higher octane fuels take longer to burn.

Before I upgraded the octane, though, I'd start by checking the timing. If the timing is advanced too much, it can cause the same result.

Gasoline comes from the refineries and is sold to jobbers as needed, the difference is the additive package, techron is very good, not needed in every fill up, use it every 3rd fill up and it will keep injectors clean from gum. The other difference is the crude that is used to distill the gas from. Sweet or sour crude?
Better to use a sweet crude, not as much sulfur in it to start with, more expensive crude. Very hard to know what crude the refinery in your area uses.
The refinery I work for uses the most nasty crude posible and then we extract the gas from it therefore making a better margin.

I would reccomend to use the techron once a month and the correct octane to keep the engine from knocking and causing premature connecting rod damage.
