lets hear those racing stories
Here mine:
Philadelphia: June 2003 I was driving my friend home one night in my mom's car, a '01 Lexus LS430. We were having a nice conversation about her feminine problems. Anyways, I noticed that some old somewhat beat up car was kind of following me on my right side. It was filled with that it seemed to be 5 college kids. Note that my friend and I were still in high school. I was a senior and she was a sophmore. I didn't pay much attention to it and I turned to get on to the ramp on to US1. At the light that car pulls up and start reving its engine. They had their windows down and were laughing at us. My friend turns to me and said "Hey Rob, I think they want to race you". I wasn't about to be beaten by some old beat up car with my lady friend sitting next to me As soon as the light turned green we both floored it. I guess I shouldn't have floored it since I burnt rubber . I passed two traffic lights and got onto the freeway before they even passed the first light. Ahhh, silly college kids thinking they can beat me One of the last fun moments I got to spend with this friend, but thats another story. |

Thousand dollar bet (not me betting, but he chose me to drive for him). 79 Malibu, 9 inch slick 355 with Canfield heads against a tubbed 6-71 blown BBC Monte Carlo. He did a wheelstand, I pulled the front wheels but got down fairly quick because the car had suspension limiters up front. Got out of the hole and floored it, RPM switch kicked in and I beat him on spray, pulled hard on him past mid track. Only race I've ever been in for anything more than pocket change. Gotta hand it to the engine builder, tuned the hell out of that smallblock for only having about 3k into it (ran 9.72 in a 3600lb car.)

Ha, Ha,
Have done very little drag racing on street, not really experienced at it, like autoxing more. But just tonight, pulled up next to a Contour SVT, several kids in it, new car tags. I have a stock 2002 WRX wagon, with stick. Took off quick, he squealed his tires, beat him to the next light. Again, revved up after light changed, eased in the clutch, and let the power pass him in less than 30 yards. Only drove to about 50-60 on a 50 mph road, just enough to let him know I am faster. I don't want to beat up my clutch or tranny, so I have never dropped the clutch on this car, and have never squealed the tires, even in the rain. Also, I am not looking to race everyone. I know that Car and Driver, have put up some really fast 1/4 mile times with this car, but that was with 4500 rpm clutch drops. A new clutch installed by the dealer apparently costs around $1100, and my 36,000 mile warranty is already up. |

Was with my brother in his RX7. Some kids thinking they were hot shit in their Civic Si decide they want to try and race (squeel the tires taking of from a light). Naturally, we had no idea we were racing so they won. At the next light they thought they were tough shit all laughing and stuff because they beat someone who wasn't racing (seems pretty typical for Honda owners, no?). Next light we push it. Let it go at about 2000 rpm (really low for a rotary), just enough to get a semi decent start without bogging it. 7800 rpm, shift out, BAM! , rotary pop, shift into second. Back end sinks down and we take of. About a car length behind us we hear dumbass' vtec kick in, followed by a shift. Apparently into 4th or something. Hes about 1500 rpm or so, too low. So back into the very top of 1st. That was funny. So he shifts AGAIN. again, he cant hit the right gear. It took him a total of like 4 shift to finally catch up to the correct gear. We hit about 60 (45 limit) and back down. Just enough to let him know he just got Wankled. Naturally the ricer fly-by occurs. I just thought it was funny how cool he is when he squeks the tires in 1 and 2 when nobodys racing, then when the pressures on he cant find the right gear.

4 cyl 2.0L vs 10 cyl 8.0L
or My 95 Mitsu Eclipse GSX (awd/turbo) vs 98 Dodge Viper Bla bla, at the track... I miss 4th, still run a 12.7@105 he sucks at driving runs a 13.2 @ 110 R&T says they run 12.8 in stock form anyway so if I was a bench racer I would hint to the fact that even if he was a good driver he still would have lost. But im not. Sure he would have pulled me on the highway. |

im driving my bone stock 61 Falcon four door home after a long night. Its about 3 am, and US-1 in southern CT is dead and all the stoplights are on flash. My girlfriend at the time had just left me after 4 years that night so I was in rare form, but I was being a good citizen doing 40 mph. Out of no where, a 5.0 convertible sneaks up behind me and I can kind of tell the driver is checking my car out. So I keep driving figuring it was an older guy just checking out my antique. Turns out it's some 18 year old with his girl in the car
kid pulls up next to me and starts revving hard. I kinda laugh because i thought this dipshit was kidding around. C'mon my car is about 100 hp and weighs 3 tons. Well we get to one of the few stoplights that are still working and he keeps revving. So, I think to myself "what the fuck?" Put her into neutral, revved, and at the green dropped it into drive. Barely chirped the tires and take off. The mustang beat the christ out of me on the line and pulled past me quick, but the dumbass missed a shift bad and I shot past him at about 40 mph. My car only has 2 gears (love that automatic) so i just kept my foot to the floor and took it up to about 85. At this point he was coming up on me fast. I held it at around 90 and waited for him to catch up. He looked kinda pissed off that i had gotten him that far, so we both backed it off and got back down to regular speeds. Kind of an anticlimatic ending but man was that fun. And boy does my car handle like ass that fast. Fastest I ever drove it was 100, which with no seatbelts a steel dash, and no other safety equipment was a retarded thing to do. |
