Anyone tried making a bike frame befor?
I work at a fabrication shop and plan to give it a try. Anyone ever try this or seen it attempted? Results?

Yup, never done it, but have friends that have. I hope to do so eventually, but I need to work on my welding skills first. You might try getting a good set of plans, that way you can build a frame that you know will be engineered properly. Get the theory down, and then you can build whatever it is that you are thinking of now.

I have a set plans for a Legion frame for my Honda CB750 from frankwo (his internet handle). Incredible plans. Frank does that sort of thing for a living and his plans reflect it (at least that is what the fab shop that I showed the plans to said).

I've seen Jesse James and a few guys on tv build a frame. One guy was Billy somebody and he made a killer frame. I've learned a lot from TLC and the Discovery channel .. plus the American Chopper series

This site here

has a bunch of good threads on DIY customizing, chop downs and frame building. Check it out.

I have a frame sitting at my house... just waiting. Now I just need the skills.

to properly build a frame you really first need to build a frame jig...
just to insure things come out really perfect, you could do it without one, but I wouldnt ride on the bike :shrug

just my .02....

I built my duaghter a pedal bike chopper from scratch...
I do alot of work on bikes but never attempted a cycle frame......just scared about going 60mph down the hi-way and thinking about all the welds I did.

uhmm, they dont build motorcycles on monster garage.
you're probably thinking of West Coast Choppers

but I'm gonna have to disagree, these guys build the coolest bikes, as far as shop-built bikes go

Chica Custom Cycles builds some cool ass bikes as well.

and dont forget Chopperdave's for pics of REAL choppers, as well as the Dutchman

oh yeah, for the guy wanting to build his own frames: frame jigs

Jesse james is a good metal fabricator, and bike builder, but all his bikes look the same. He needs to use a different set of pipes.
