What's New with Infiniti for 2004?
by Trevor Hofmann , Canadian Auto Press

New AWD G35x Sedan will be On Sale in Canada by December

Nissan's luxury division, Infiniti, has experienced the most aggressive new model onslaught in its existence. Only one model remains of the old guard, the front-wheel drive I35.

But even though only the midsize I35, QX4 Nissan Pathfinder based SUV and recently redesigned Q45 full-size luxury sedan were the only models to carryover last year, each new model will be upgraded for 2004.

The charge up the sales charts was initially led by the G35 sedan, the first competitive sports sedan to truly vie for top performance accolades with the legendary BMW 3-Series. For 2004 there will be no letting up, with the advent of all-wheel drive (AWD).

The ATTESSA E-TS AWD system, standard on FX35 and FX45, will be available on the G35x in December of this year, a technological tour de force that features an active torque distribution management system with an electro-magnetic clutch (no center differential). Traction is said to be improved on slippery road surfaces, promoting smooth starts and increased agility at all speeds. A rear-wheel drive bias helps the new G35x feel similar to its RWD sibling, yet when called upon via computer control, can vary torque distribution front-to-rear between 0:100 and 50:50. The G35x will only be available with Infiniti's sequential shifting 5-speed automatic. A "Snow-Mode" switch is included, 'locking' the torque distribution ratio at 50:50 to improve performance in slippery conditions.

All G35s continue with the award winning 3.5-L VQ 6-cylinder engine as standard equipment, boasting 260-hp and either the aforementioned automatic gearbox or a 6-speed manual transmission. Its 4-wheel independent multi-link suspension is class leading. All VQ engines will meet LEV2 standard for emissions beginning with October production.

Over and above optional AWD, the G35 receives a faster operating 6-disc CD changer, a standard Tire Pressure Monitor System, standard rear limited-slip differential on 6MT models and two new exterior colors, including Silverstone and Twilight Blue - the latter being available previously. Also, Luxury Leather-A5 models receive a standard 4-way power front passenger's seat, formerly only part of the Premium Package.

Although less than a year old, the stylish and sporty two-door G35 will also be getting an upgrade. (Photo: Trevor Hofmann, Canadian Auto Press)
The stylish two-door G35, although only entering the market less than a year ago gets a few updates of its own. Leather 6MT models receive a revised center console, adding a center armrest and additional cupholder. Like the sedan the G35 Sport Coupe gets the improved 6-disc CD changer, standard Tire Pressure Monitor System and Twilight Blue exterior color. But unlike the sedan the sleek coupe continues forward with its sweet 280 horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6.

Why would we want to avoid a thread about the discussion of an upcoming vehicle?

Assuming we have interesting things to say, nothing wrong with it.

But if the sole purpose of the starting post is "which kind of AWD system will it use?", the thread won't go most places. In the future, one thing you'll want to do is to share your opinions, perhaps post pictures or links to them if you have them, and ask for everyone's thoughts on the car.

That said, I'm not too impressed with the looks (I'm very picky about what I like in cars in terms of body style), though the variable torque-distribution definitely looks interesting.

I couldn't have stated it better myself Pragma.

That said... if you look at my post... it pretty much covered your question.. .thus leaving the rest of the discussion to "COOL!" "CAN'T WAIT!!!!" and other non discussion type comments.

I'm not sure it's the GR-R AWD system. I doubt it, if it was it would have gotten the press all up in it about how its' the GT-R AWD system.
