Car rentals
I've rented plenty of cars in my lifetime... but lately I've had the means to rent more interesting vehicles.

I dont know where you are going in Europe but my advice if you arent going cross country to see small towns is to not rent a car and do public transportation, parking gas and insurance in most metor areas is outrageous along with the fact that theives target rental cars.

I had two rentals when my car was getting fixed after someone rear-ended me.
2003 Dodge Neon - What a pile of shit. Slow, uncomfortable, plowed in turns, the transmission shifted so roughly it locked up my seatbelt at times, and I warped the rotors after 100 miles (had 3500 total). So I had the insurance company trade me up to a... 2002 Chevy Malibu. Boring as hell, and handled worse than my dad's '94 Grand Cherokee. 30 mph on a 25 mph offramp had the tires screaming for dear life. But it had good midrange power, a nice smooth drivetrain, and a cool radio that would grab the station names, weather data, etc. My year-old $250 Pioneer head unit doesn't do that! |

My company pays for a rental once a week for me to commute down to HQ. As such I am becoming an expert on intermediate late model U.S. Cars. Here's the list:
2003 Chevy Impala 2002 Ford Escort 2002 Chevy Cavalier 2002 Ford Focus 2004 Chevy Cavalier 2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2002 Hyundai Elantra 2003 Ford F-150 SuperCrew FX4 5.4L 2003 Ford Focus The F150 and Hyundai were when the place hooked me up, and not surprisingly the best vehicles.

Too many to remember them all but here are a few:
Geo Metro Ford F150 Crew Cab 4WD (for a bit more than a month when my car was in the body shop) Dodge Neon Mitsubishi Eclipse Convertible (for the Florida Keys) Jeep Wrangler (for Mexico) Chevy Impala Ford Taurus Geo Prizm Chrysler Concorde Pontiac Sunfire Almost rented a Jag convertible once but I was under 25 and they wouldn't let me get it. Had to go to another place and got something pretty crappy instead.

2002 Dodge Intrepid
2002 Toyota Corolla 2001 Buick Regal 2001 Ford Taurus The intrepid was othe most fun 1. cuz it had 900 miles on it (didnt even have permanent plates on it yet) 2. Cuz it was a drive across 3 states. 3. It doesnt feel like its gonna come apart at 100 mph like the others did. Bad cuz, it was the most often i had to stop for gas....ever. |

i beat the piss out of a 2003 Mitsu Diamante, it was pretty peppy inline or V6 i think, great handling. I had it up in Northern Maine on the back roads and got the tires to squeal at 80 going through some turns Although for a FF car i couldn't get it to break free from a stand still w/o turning the wheel, but alas it was an auto. I liked the look of it almost like a new 5 series but inside it was a little small.

Ive only ever rented one car. In 1988, I rented an 88 Grand Prix, fully loaded. Nice car. Had it up to 130 when I decided it was time to stop pushing my luck. Let off the gas and was doing about 80-85 when I passed the cop sitting in the median. Fortunately, it was like 5 am on a sunday morning and he must have been asleep. He didnt come after me.
