It's about time someone makes a truck to compete with the Ford Lightning.

Halx 09-05-2003 02:43 PM

I'm not a fan of dodges, but that scoop makes it look fierce..

Dodge Looks to be gettin kinda serious about performance these days. Heres a pic of one of their trucks-to-be from the Auto Show last year.

The Dodge Ram Rod.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9/fb2c7d10.jpg
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9.jpg.orig.jpg is the 1600x1200 version

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...4/fb2c7cff.jpg

Its kinda fuzzy and hard to read on the full size image, let alone the resized one...

Anyway here some of what it says:

-4.7L Magnum v8
-4WD
-26"x10.5" wheels. Trust me....seeing it in real life, a 26" rim is F***ing huge!
-Challenger r/t Exhaust tips. (2 exhaust tips in the middle under the lisence plate. looks sweet.)
-Bunch of custom cosmetic stuff inside and out.
-Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger
-Also by kenne bell : Optimzer 2 comp, Boost-a-pump fuel pump booster, ram air system, Way-Cool Water injection.
-Iridium Spark Plugs.

Personally i think it looks pretty sweet, with what could be great performance to back it up. Im gonna like dodge now that they are bringing back performance. Cant wait till all their vehicles have an option for a Hemi :D

CrazySaturn 09-05-2003 04:45 PM

While I disagree with pretty much all sport trucks except the original Typhoon/Syclone, looks nice. However, maybe it's just me, but the grills that keep getting bigger and bigger is starting to agitate me.

soccerchamp76 09-05-2003 04:55 PM

Badass truck. Pure and Simple.

Peryn 09-05-2003 07:39 PM

Well the big grills STARTED with dodge. It was great at teh time, made it looks very agressive. Like a semi. But now everyone else is trying to get that same look (mainly ford), so dodge is having to change theirs a little to looks somewhat unique. Everyones is getting uglier because someone could let the other guy have it....

zfleebin 09-05-2003 08:44 PM

two words: Damn Right
Viper owners are getting to test drive these right now and they should be getting the preorders out in December so hopefully well see these on the street soon.

Atomic Pinkie 09-06-2003 04:59 AM

Its car ram rod....

lol

Scorps 09-06-2003 08:06 AM

I heard about that Ram with the Viper power.

CamaroRS1967 09-06-2003 08:43 AM

Anybody know a base price on one of these things?

Asshole Lover 09-06-2003 02:36 PM

what a beaut!!

i believe bprice was like 50,000 and above right?

WarWagon 09-06-2003 02:47 PM

That thing is going to spank the Lightning like a red-headed stepchild, though what cought my interest in the pics was the monster truck with all the summit seats in back :-D

Captain Canada 09-06-2003 08:51 PM

double post

Captain Canada 09-06-2003 08:51 PM

That truck looks SWEET. MMM......Viper V10.

NukingFuts 09-06-2003 11:03 PM

Doubt it will be a Lightning killer may give it a good race, but definately won't kill it. 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times are roughly comparable based on dodges figures. I guess we will see if/when dodge produces this thing.

canucker 09-08-2003 07:31 AM

From what I've been reading, you will be looing at 60K starting (in U.S. $$), and the thing has been VERY underated. The viper owners are putting in there orders now with delivery in Dec 03 and it will leave the lighting in it's dust. Now if I could only come up with a quick 60K that the g/f would let me blow.

Well if the silervado SS is 65,000 CDN after taxes must be 60,000 or so USD.

Lyaec123 09-08-2003 10:04 AM

The Viper truck will be sick, but... has anyone seen the new 2004 Lightning? That truck will be insane... 450horse and looks to kill. I'm normally a Chevy guy, but that Ford will be nuts, GM is going to get clobbered with their ~300hp ext cab AWD SS truck being the top of the line performance from them :( Oh well, maybe they've got something up their sleeve to up the ante (I hope!)

zizdog69 09-09-2003 05:07 AM

WooHoo, my apartment overlooks a Dodge holding area (500+ cars/trucks). I'm sure they'll have a few there when it arrives. It looks sweet but I'm not a Dodge person.

pagliachi2003 09-09-2003 07:20 AM

This thing sure as hell better kick a Lightning's ass if it costs twice as much (base msrp on lightning is about $32k).

Chevy's got the Chevy SSR Aluminum Vortec 5300 V8

- 5300 cc / 323.4 cu in
- 216.3 kw / 290 bhp @ 5200 rpm
- 440.64 nm / 325 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm
- 54.72 bhp per litre

CrazySaturn 09-09-2003 09:04 AM

The Silverado SS is a truck with sportiness, not meant to compete with the Lightning/SRT. The SSR is a cruiser with little sport, but good ride. (It's like 4500 lbs IIRC). Personally, I really don't like the SSR, but anyways...

That's what I was thinking.

Now let's see them go for fastest quarter mile while towing a 747 :)

That would be a Diesel test.......and the HD Chevy would win.

Feyenoord 09-11-2003 03:42 AM

Sweet car

65 356c 09-12-2003 02:09 AM

i cant wait for that truck!!!

have you guys seen the latest Ford/Chevy commercials where they compare their truck to the compentions? I think they are pretty funny, one of 'em doesnt even mention dodge and right at the end of the other one the anouncer said "based on model year 1995-2001" or something like that which was before the Hemi was available. i have always been a huge dodge fan though...

Haha, who the hell knows? ;) Never heard of it myself.

Kurant 09-13-2003 05:53 AM

The SRT Ram looks uber, however, I don't see peoples obsession witht he Hemi. It's overrated (Feb Car and Driver Dyno shows 306 at the flywheel, 219 at the wheels) and gas milage is still as bad to worse then any of the other Magnum engines. The SS also wasen't built to compete with the Lightning or the SRT. It has almost every option available, heated seats, leather, upgraded stereo, 20" inch rims, and a 6.0L engine. It's also all wheel drive. It's just a nicer interior with a little more punch.

Personally, Dodge is coming up big with performence and just overall look of they're truck, but not enough is changing for me. Magnum engines are notorious for valve and compression problems, bad gas milage and just overall poor reliability, not to mention they are generally way underpowered. And don't mistake underpowered for speed, you can fix "power lacking" motors get up and go by building high revving engines, just ask Honda, they've been doing it for years. Towing my 24' fiberglass boat in my buddies 4.7L was a complete joke.

I'll stick with my Silverado.

a1t3r3g0 09-13-2003 01:01 PM

That machine is just effen beautiful!

DiffEng 09-13-2003 01:17 PM

Very cool.

Makes me wonder when GM will wake up and create a real "supertruck." Ford has the Lightning, now the SRT Ram, but the Silverado SS isn't that wild at all. Looks good, but unlike the Dodge and Ford, doesn't have the power to back it up.

Is the SRT Ram a manual or does it make do with the auto?

zfleebin 09-13-2003 03:25 PM

Kurant: Ill agree the hemi loses a lot to the drivetrain but I have seen a number of dynos and the lowest I have seen is 260hp at the wheels. As for your reference to car and driver Ill have to call shenanigans. The hemi was featured in march and you made up those numbers not them. Its okay to not like other brands products but a lie is just a lie no matter how you look at it.

FastShark85 09-13-2003 03:45 PM

Doesn't appear to be a 4 wheel drive from the burnout photo....I'm guessing that truck's gonna need to be parked whenever there's any snow on the ground. Love the high output, but seems impractical in a truck.

440sixpack 09-13-2003 07:31 PM

I have dyno'd mine, under relatively bad conditions I got 247.0 hp and 299.3 tq at the rear wheels, and those are among the lowest I've seen. Mileage isn't terrible either - sticker claims 13/17, and that's about what I get.

They got the SSR

Kurant 09-15-2003 06:42 AM

Dodge predicts 5.2 0-60/8.4 0-80 and 13.8 in the 1/4.

Not really that fast. Hopefully it musters more then that.

The SSR isn't really a real truck though. THe thing with the Lightning, SRT, and Silverado SS is that they can all do what real trucks are meant to do. The SSR, although cool, is really just a sporty roadster with a massive trunk. Well, not really, but you know what I'm getting at.

:)
