It's expensive too! MSRP is like 49,000 on that thing. EDIT: How fast is it, anyway? Last edited by Kurant; 09-15-2003 at 11:08 AM.. |

Stock L runs 13.8 with 120 less HP. Supercharged though.(moot point anyway, the new L's will blow that thing away. Estimated 450HP in the new L's). SS runs 14.8. 155 HP less, and it's a fully functional, 4 door, extended cab, with AWD, leather, heated seats, loaded. Now that I put it in that perspective, it's really not that great at all. EDIT: I'd still buy one though. It's a sweet looking truck. Last edited by Kurant; 09-15-2003 at 06:26 PM.. |

it also depends on gearing. If its geared for real low end performance and power (like i think a truck should be) then it will pull higher times. But yeah, those times are kinda pathetic for the power its putting out. I sure hope they do some work on it to get those down lower.

They've built more than one prototype of the Dodge Tomahawk V-10 Motorcycle. Top speed = 400MPH. Hold on to your NUTS.
I love the look of this RAM. Not to mention, imagine tossing a supercharger on that 505c.i. bad boy. The Lightning has a supercharger already and barely produces 500HP. Naturally aspirated 505HP in the RAM is sick...

Your comparing apples and orange here.
An 8.0L motor, and a 5.4L supercharged motor. The L doesn't produce even close to 500 HP, try 380. The new ones they claim will do 450, there is only a concept out. You can assume the production vehicle will be toned down a bit. It's half the price, the new one will be faster then 13.8. This really isn't cost efficent. It's going to be 50-60k for this truck. It's still a dodge, and for 500hp, it's certianly isn't fast. It's cool looking, but if I were buying a truck to haul ass down tracks and all over town, with the track record the new Cobras have (1500 bucks in mods and the will run low 11's - It's the same 5.4L supercharged in the L.) it would be a Lightning. |

Kurant: I totally understand your brand loyalty but I have heard this argument too many times to watch the same cycle play out again. Until this truck comes out I would say all these numbers are speculation. I have seen claims that this truck was pulling 12.9's stock refer to http://www.fitzmotorsports.com/dms.html
I have also heard the price starts in the $40,000 range. I am not willing to place any validity to those claims until someone rolls up with a srt10 a time slip and proof of how much they paid. I like ford and have owned two explorers that served me very well. I have also owned a Durango and now my Hemi and I love them too. In the end I will admit I am biased but until I see some time slips and the truck in front of my face I am not gonna get in another heated debate over who is faster. |

Your right, it is all speculation until you see that time slip. So is pricing, so is everything else about this truck.
However, biased or not. One thing remains true. This truck does very little to change the "sport" truck trend. Ford will still have the corner on this market, with a 32,000 dollar truck. With 1500$ in mods will run mid 11's. Dodge, can't and won't touch that. I'm not biased by any means towards either of the 2. I own a BMW M3 and a Silverado. I guess what pisses me off the most, they are so proud of what they build, and nothing is really THAT impressive. They did one hell of a job with the SRT-4, why coulden't they be that creative with a sport truck. Nah, just instead, they'll throw a 10k motor in it, or a Hemi, and call it good for 50g's. Forget performence, will just make it look cool and you can be cool cause you've got the Viper V10! Stick the ML55 AMG V8 in somthing, they have the resources, why don't they just do it? Another thing is, Chevy really doesn't build suepr trucks right out of the factory, they are more cars. If you want a good truck buy a S10 and drop a big block in it..there its now better then the Lighting. |

well a pickup or suv are different class cars. If you want an SUV with speed (seems kind of like an paradox), you can go for the new Porsche Cayanne, or even the BMW X5 4.6si seems to have some good figures but you will be paying for what you expect to get. It looks like the powerhouse pickup genre is growing and why not have dodge jump into the scene while it has a v10 to use and truck that looks aggresive.

I like the old Dodge trucks, the new ones are really ugly!! I like that truck, the V10 deffinatly makes it more appealing. I think it would be real nice with a 6 speed...and a supercharger of course

I would like to see how the new ram performs on the track, but not only in a straight line. I'd really like to see how they corner. The one lightning i have had the pleasure to drive was amazing for a truck, it really tore through corners well. Regarding straight line performance, I saw a slightly modified Lightning (pullies, slicks, a couple other things) run a high 11 second time at ATCO, also amazing for a truck.
Being a mopar fan I hope they get their act together with this truck. |

Ram SRT-10 'World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck'
I think the title say's it all. The SRT10 has raised the bar and deserves a ton of respect for pulling it off na. It's been a long time coming but it looks like the truck is all that was hyped up to be. So, who heres got respect for the worlds fastest production truck?
Dodge Ram SRT-10 Grabs Guinness World Record Monday February 2, 12:44 pm ET - Viper-powered Ram SRT-10 'World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck' - NASCAR's Brendan Gaughan Fastest Man In A Production Dodge Ram CHELSEA, Mich., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Dodge Ram SRT-10 unleashed its Viper power today, taking its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck." Only recently off the Saltillo, Mexico, assembly line and not modified in any way for additional power or enhanced aerodynamics, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 posted a two-lap, both-directions average speed of 154.587 mph over a "flying kilometer" on the 4.71-mile oval at the DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds here in Chelsea. The record run by the Dodge Ram SRT-10 was certified by Guinness World Records and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). The previous record was 147.54 mph, set last July by the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning, before the Dodge Ram SRT-10 went into production. "When we set out to develop the Dodge Ram SRT-10, our mission was to create the ultimate performance truck," said Dan Knott, Director, Street and Racing Technology. "With 500 horsepower, sports car-like handling, world- class braking and race-inspired design appointments, we know we reached our goal. Setting the Guinness record today simply confirms that, and solidifies the Ram SRT-10 as the ultimate -- and fastest -- performance pickup." According to Guinness World Records rules, the record speed had to be the average of two one-kilometer runs in opposite directions along the same track, made within an hour of one another. The timing equipment had to be certified as accurate to within 1/1000th of a second, and supplied and operated by a qualified third party. The speed of each run was timed by means of sensors at the start and finish of the measured kilometer, thus giving an average speed over the full distance. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the third Dodge vehicle branded with the Street and Racing Technology label, following the Dodge Viper SRT-10 -- the ultimate American sports car -- and the award-winning 230 horsepower Dodge SRT-4, that has taken the sport compact "tuner" crowd by storm. Behind the wheel of the Ram SRT-10 in the record-setting run was Brendan Gaughan, a six-time winner in a Dodge Ram in the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS). Gaughan makes his NASCAR Nextel Cup debut later this month at the Daytona 500 in the No. 77 Kodak Dodge. "I've certainly driven some fast trucks," Gaughan said, "but I've certainly never experienced anything like setting a Guinness world record. I've known for a long time that the Dodge Ram is the ultimate truck for the race track, and this certainly proves the Ram SRT-10 is the ultimate performance truck for the street." Hein Le Roux, research team member at Guinness World Records traveled from the company's London headquarters to monitor the record run. "I'm pleased to be here in Chelsea for this record-breaking attempt," Le Roux said. "Guinness World Records is the ultimate compilation of superlatives, and I am proud to officially recognize that Dodge has set a new Guinness World Record." Le Roux said watching the record-setting speed run was a great way to begin the new year, in which Guinness World Records celebrates 50 years of world records. "People aren't too surprised when they hear about expensive super cars or race cars setting speed records," he added. "But few people expect a standard production pickup truck, which they can drive straight off the dealer lot, to be capable of this sort of speed. That's what makes this such a great Guinness World Record." With a Guinness World Record now under its belt, the stock Dodge Ram SRT- 10 now heads to Florida, where it will pace the field at the Feb. 13 Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NCTS race at Daytona International Speedway. |

But why? It's a sports car with a bed and a bad aerodynamics....why not just buy a sports car?
Is it just so you can tell your friends that you have the worlds fastest production pickup? (not trying to flame, just wondering) |
