For one, it's a completely subjective question. There is no point what-so-ever to a question like this.

Every other thread on the Motors forum is an "Import vs. American" thread.

Pick any thread on the MForum that has a Civic on it, or any thread with a Camaro on it. Those threads are all the same.
If it's waste of Bandwidth then have it deleted...I'm sure there is more than this thread on TFP that people think is a waste of Bandwidth.

If this thread was a waste of bandwidth, it would have been deleted. As long as you all keep it civil, I think it can lead to some good discussion.

Telling me to pick one type of car is like telling me to pick one type of donut. I like them all and wouldn't want to have to pick just one as being the best.

It seems that those of us who can appreciate a muscle car with a blower just as much as a sporty import with twin turbo are a dying breed.

No blower for me, thanks. Big n/a power is beyond compare

I very much enjoyed listening to the Corvettes at Le Mans a couple of years ago; but I hate having to change gear with my right hand, so 'import' it will always be.

It depends. For a sports car, give me american anyday over an import. But for trucks and cars, those little imports just last forever!!

You can't just say import vs domestic. if you look at the cars that we import we only bring in the better/worth while modles of them. believe me... there are a bunch of shitty ones that never make it to the states. and we have plenty of shitty ones made domestic that never make it over seas. IMHO the import ones that we do bring in are nice and for the most part are worth it. but there are some really nice domestic cars among the shitty ones that are produced too. you would really have to look at a particular car -vs- car and not so general of a catagory. then even with car-vs-car you need to look at what the drivers needs/intentions are and if that car provides that for them. most people would say that there is no question of wanting a BMW Z4 over a station wagon... but to the mom with 4 kids it's the other way around. the only exception that i can think of are the vast majority of knock-off SUVs that are out there that will only come close to off-roading when they accidentally drive off their driveway and on to the lawn. import and domestic alike have some stupid models... but that's a rant i don't want to start on.

It's gotta be an import. The quality is much better (even though american is getting alot better). I've had my Acura for 5 years. Change the oil and scheduled maitenance. Thats all. It hauls ass and it gets great milage (35 mpg).

well, iīve got to say, we donīt get very many American made vehicles here... (although this could change if this much-maligned free trade agreement goes through - please America, donīt let it go through!!).

however, the two most common car companies here are owned my American companies... so in a way they could be American cars...

we mainly all drive Japanese, Korean and European cars...

my preference out of these two choices... imports.

I'm a Chevy and Dodge guy. I'm also in love with the drag strip, and nothing, and I mean nothing, is better on the strip then american made cars. Period. That sways my vote by a lot, but the main thing that turns me off imports (japanese) is all the retards that own them. No doubt euro/jap made cars handle better on the track, but that doesn't interest me all that much.

when americans can make a car that the transmission doesn't blow just after 70,000 miles . I'll buy american again.
My moms Saturn (GM) has 158,000 miles and the tranny is fine. I think it's a 97? I forget. Sorry for the double post, just had to add this.
