We (Alberta) have them on our plates. Actually, I think the whole of Canada does.

I also know that the UK (as I used to live there) place thiers in a holder on the windshield.

Texas used to put the year sticker on the rear plate, but so many were being pulled off and stolen that they went with the window sticker to prevent this. To get the gunk off, use a razor blade to remove the sticker.

It could be worse, you could be in NJ (for many reasons). As for stickers, we now have to use both inside the windshield and on the license plates (both front and rear). The winshield sticker is for state inspection and the license plate ones are for registration. The windshield sticker used to be for both, but now inspection isn't every year anymore.

Wow, looks like CA finally has something better than most of the country. Its really nice to just slap on a sticker on teh bakc plate an not hafta worry about it ever again. Next year comes around and you just put it on top of the old one. Clean it off real good before you put the sticker on, and nobody will be able to pull em off and steal em.

Colorado uses plate stickers. We used to have emissions stickers on the windows but they have done away with that as well.

Kentucky its just a month and year sticker on the back plate. The metro areas require emissions testing, but not out in the boonies where Im from. But now our license plates are super ugly.

As to the gunk it leaves, I tend to just hit it with some professional grade window cleaner and a razor blade.

In South Australia, (one the the aussie states) they are talking about not using registration stickers at all. We currently have one that sticks to the inside of the windscreen. The state goverment is in the middle of the deciding if cars need them of not. I hope that they decide that we dont need them. Now that would be cool.
