An open invitation

Each year for the past 6, we've had a nice little car show at my store, Glendale Auto Supply in Farmington MI.

We started doing it as a customer appreciation/ open house for our loyal customers who have poured their love, sweat and hard-earned cash into fixing up their rides. We've had as many as 60 cars displayed while we dished out hot dogs, chili, and soft drinks.

The best part has been getting the customers to meet each other, swap stories, share tips and create some lasting friendships. A pair of our attendees even created a DVD slide show set to music of our 2000 show. I've included a few screen captures in this post (thank you, John and Bob! )

This years show, our 6th, is scheduled for this coming Sunday, August 24, from 10 am until (at least) 3 pm. Everyone who finds themselves in the SouthEastern Michigan area is invited to come out, say "howdy" to the grumpy one, meet some great car folks and see some great cars.

If you want to come and need directions, pm me here or email to : glendaleautoshow@yahoo.com and I can send you a map. Or you could MapBlast this address: 23281 Orchard Lake Rd, Farmington, MI 48336.

That's just a taste! If you're in the neighborhood, drop in!

badflsh 08-18-2003 09:37 PM

Wow, it looks like you get some really neat cars there! If I wasn't on the left coast I would try to come by :(

grumpyolddude 08-18-2003 09:43 PM

I plan on posting pics from this years' show ASAP.

nitrorclover 08-18-2003 10:28 PM

Sweet cars!! Too bad I am in CA :(.

FastShark85 08-19-2003 05:36 AM

Grumpy:

Do you allow non-American cars there?

I'd love to drop by with my 928, but we're probably going "up north" this weekend. I could pass the word along to some other 928 owners in the area.

thanks for the invite!

i'm in chicago. just took my impala & 3 yr old to our first car show last week. had a blast.

might be a bit of a commute for us, but if nothing else comes up, maybe we'll make the trip.......my dad lives in west bloomfield.

Scorps 08-19-2003 09:58 AM

I Live in Ontario and not going down south anytime soon:(

With in the next 2 years I'm getting my van fixed and getting the body retouched so she will look super nice.

Wow, jimk, driving all the way from Chicago for a couple of hot dogs and a cup of fruit juice? That's better than I could have hoped for! We'd be glad to have you, but make sure you spend time with your dad. West Bloomfield is a part of our service area. Maybe dad knows us?

FastShark, I think a 928 or two would make a great picture squeezed between a radical Malibu wagon and pristine Model A. The old Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar crowd could use a bit of a shake up:cool:

And Pain Train, we've always encouraged the inclusion of "works in progress" along with the finished products. Sharing war stories and gleaning tips at these shows have helped a few of the guys finish their cars with fewer headaches and frustrations. Seeing where you're coming from, alongside where you want to get to, can be a lot of fun.

We're just a little local show, but we are proud of what we do, and you are all welcome to join us. Thanks for the response!

I've started an MSN group named Glendale Auto Show. In it I've uploaded the photos that I have, and will post more when I get my paws on 'em.

I've added maps to the show location in the Documents file.

Thanks for the compliment. We try to do a job that we can be proud of.

We moved that 13 Mile/ Orchard Lake store over to 10 Mile / Telegraph. Easier traffic to deal with, a lot more do-it-yourselfers, a lot more wholesale business; it was a good move all around. We still get a lot of comments about the 13 Mile store, though.

Nice looking rides in attendance there!

absorbentishe 08-22-2003 08:55 AM

I'll be up that way next weekend, I'd love to see all the cars though. Sounds like you have a great time. Hope for good weather this weekend!

grumpyolddude 08-24-2003 11:54 AM

Wow!!! We just walked in, returning from the car show, We had hoped for 40-50 cars, but ended up with 75! Gotta order more dash plaques. We also had a few vintage Triumph motorcycles

I took 160 photos, my daughter took another 50. Not digital, so we're getting kodak picture-disc processing. That takes a couple of days. There was a professional photographer hanging around. He promised me copies of his work, too:thumbsup:

For a little local show, we did pretty well. We can now officially call it the Glendale Auto International car show! We had a right hand drive 1969(?) Dodge Charge Daytona that had been shipped from New South Wales, Australia... very very cool. The owner claims it is the only one in existence. We had a 1979 VW Beetle convertible originally from Germany. We had a 1960(?) Austin Mini 1000 (right-hand drive) and a British Ford panel truck (also right hand drive).

The oldest car: 1917 Model T
The oddest vehicle: an old army troop transport converted into a party limo (it's sound system provided music for the show.).

We served hot dogs and lemonade, cake and cookies (coffee and doughnuts for the early birds). We had three entries into our annual chili- cooking competion. Will Kinney won again with a tasty, chunky chili that had a long, hot aftertaste. Good stuff!

We busted the show up at 3 pm, just as it started to sprinkle. Up until that time, we could not have asked for a more pleasant day.
When I get the picture discs, I'll start posting pictures. Watch for a new thread with those later in the week!

Thanks G.O.D. I've been looking at pictures for months, I need to learn how to post those bad boys.
