Find a recently divorced lady who was able to snag her ex-husband's car in the settlement. I'm sure she'd love to part with it for cheap just to piss him off.

Check eBay for older Porsche 944's. They sometimes go this low because they need TLC. It's more the labor costs than the parts that make those cars expensive. If you can do the work yourself, it's not too expensive.
Or, go to THIS WEB SITE and ask actual owners what they think. Last edited by FastShark85; 08-13-2003 at 01:59 PM.. |

Also keep an eye out for merker xr4ti, mustang svo (probably wont see one of these) or thunderbird turbocoups. All use the ford 2.3 turbo and range from around 175 hp to just over 200. However they can be fairly easily modified for quite a bit more power without spending much money (see www.turboford.org). Often times these cars can be found for well under 1000 (except the svo) and the stock shortblocks easily hold up 350+ hp.

Any early 90's Nissan Z car or Pontiac (preferably Grand Prix or Trans AM). Friend of mine has a '92 Prix, stock, and he's beat many newer cars with more hp. Remember, before '96ish, the emission requirements were much more lax. This means more speed for each pony.

I'll go with the 1st gen DSM, but make sure you get AWD. www.buschurracing.com is great with the money youve got left over.

MR2's are stylish (my ride hehe) but late 80's Z28 or MKIII Supra Turbo's are hard to touch in a straight line for the money. Of course, there are quite a few 1G DSM's that are available for less than 2 grand, which leaves plenty for go-fast goodies...although I'd avoid the all-wheel drive versions...the front wheel drive versions are just as fast in the quarter, and, in an older car, will be much cheaper to work on.

But the AWD is so handy when you have to move you car in a college town and you have no shovel. I got snowed in under a 4 foot drift and just got it, warmd it up, took it to 6k rpm and droped the clutch. I was out of that drift in about 2 seconds. But it is a PITA to work on.

You probably have some decent dirt roads to go rally driving on. Another great use for awd.
