Fast car for $4000?
Anyone know any cars that are pretty fast that i could get for $4000??? Any suggestions welcome
Find a recently divorced lady who was able to snag her ex-husband's car in the settlement. I'm sure she'd love to part with it for cheap just to piss him off.
hahahaha, good idea...i actually just drove by a 1990 300zx for $4000...if i can sell my car for that I'm gonna go for it
Check eBay for older Porsche 944's. They sometimes go this low because they need TLC. It's more the labor costs than the parts that make those cars expensive. If you can do the work yourself, it's not too expensive.
Or, go to THIS WEB SITE and ask actual owners what they think. |
A Z28 Camaro or a Trans Am...... Plenty of bang for your buck! :D
I got a car that's fast for $4500....$3500 without the rims...heh
Let me know if you're interested. (Seriously) I'll just say that my car would be able to burn a lot of everyone elses here. |
Also keep an eye out for merker xr4ti, mustang svo (probably wont see one of these) or thunderbird turbocoups. All use the ford 2.3 turbo and range from around 175 hp to just over 200. However they can be fairly easily modified for quite a bit more power without spending much money (see www.turboford.org). Often times these cars can be found for well under 1000 (except the svo) and the stock shortblocks easily hold up 350+ hp.

Buy an early 80's 5.0 mustang for about $500 that needs engine work and dump $1k in work.......very fast.
2nd gen Mazda RX7 Turbo II
3Rd Gen Toyota Supra turbo easy to modify, fast enough, fun to drive |
90-94 Turbo charged Eclipse talon or laser, 200 HP with AWD for about 2500 dollars, then about 1500 in mods, you'll be good to go. They are really fun cars :)
i second the 2nd gen RX7 turboII. Very nic bang for the buck. Plus you got the rotary, so its plenty unique. and a blast to drive.

pretty good ideas so far...any one know anything about the 1991 300zx that i should know? it looks to be in perfect shape....94k miles, automatic
I've heard dubious things about the 1991 300ZX electrical system. Apparently it was fixed for 1992 though.
Don't take my word for it though, check it out. I could be wrong. |
I second the vote for a cheap 1G DSM....
Wait a second, I first (behind Aston) the idea of a LT1 Camaro/Firebird :D |
Any early 90's Nissan Z car or Pontiac (preferably Grand Prix or Trans AM). Friend of mine has a '92 Prix, stock, and he's beat many newer cars with more hp. Remember, before '96ish, the emission requirements were much more lax. This means more speed for each pony.

I will third or fourth the 1st gen dsm. |
^ Yay, good to know dsm's get love here.
http://www.dsmtalk.com is a good site for lots of info, they have tons of links there, and very cool people. just make sure you get the 5spd, bigger turbo/injectors than the automatic versions :) |
tfin, it is a hot rod Chevy pickup equipped with a built 400 Smallblock. Then again, he's looking for a car not a hot rod.
what year? I am looking for a chevy truck soon. I want a 71 or a 68-72 truck. Sorry sort of a minor thread hijack.
Thanks for all of the idea's guys.....I have to learn how to drive stick first hehe if i wanna get a manual

I'm giving everyone who posted in this thread a speeding ticket.
an '87 buick t-type.
Want some speed for your dollar, cheapest 10.5 second 1/4 mile you'll find is a sportbike.
^this is true, however, put that last 1000 down on a funeral..
Id buy a late 80's early 90's IROC carmaro, fast car and is easy on the wallet
i'd buy renault clio williams or valver... but i guess it's kinda rare in america :(
I'll go with the 1st gen DSM, but make sure you get AWD. www.buschurracing.com is great with the money youve got left over.
Buy an old jag XJS. Very stylish.

95 AWD talon, 1g motor. 14b turbo... 12.9 @ 103 |
MR2's are stylish (my ride hehe) but late 80's Z28 or MKIII Supra Turbo's are hard to touch in a straight line for the money. Of course, there are quite a few 1G DSM's that are available for less than 2 grand, which leaves plenty for go-fast goodies...although I'd avoid the all-wheel drive versions...the front wheel drive versions are just as fast in the quarter, and, in an older car, will be much cheaper to work on.
But the AWD is so handy when you have to move you car in a college town and you have no shovel. I got snowed in under a 4 foot drift and just got it, warmd it up, took it to 6k rpm and droped the clutch. I was out of that drift in about 2 seconds. But it is a PITA to work on.
yeah, silly me, i forgot about snow...I live in AZ where it rains maybe ten-fifteen days a year, and never snows. AWD is definitely an advantage in incliment weather.
You probably have some decent dirt roads to go rally driving on. Another great use for awd.
1st gen DSM, 2nd gen FC3S rx7 turboII, 1st gen MX6 turbo.
All of these cars are turbo and cheap to get ahold of. As for american mucsle a fox body mustang, any v8 fbody. evo |
