Rav4 or Xterra?
Hey guys, I'm a college student in the market for a new SUV. I got some cash to work with (17-19k or so) and I've narrowed my choices down to these two. I'm mostly going to use it for daily commuting around town and going places like the beach and stuff. Which one of these do you guys recommend?
Thanks. :D |
Xterra. The Rav4 ain't no SUV.

Xterra
|
Gotta go with the Xterra on this one.
|
If you're going to use it for what it's intended, Xterra, like everyone else said.
|
If "going to the beach and stuff" includes hauling a lot of stuff, then I'd say the Xterra would be best. If not, then go with the RAV4, less space inside but you'll get better fuel mileage and probably a better ride.
|
This from someone in the business.........XTERRA....especially with a name like TEX.
|
RAV if you want to go over speed bumps and curbs....
|
Update:
I went out today and got the the Xterra. I'll post pics as soon as I take them. :D |
Good choice. Did you get the higher horsepower engine (I remember Nissan offering two types)?
|
Well, like I posted earlier, I didn't have too much cash (being a college student and all) so I got the 180 HP v6. I got 2k off MSRP which really helped. Also, I really like the rugged look that the Xterra has, opposed to the wimpy Rav4 look. ( no offense to you Rav4 owners out there.:) )

If you haven't found your way to the Xterra Owner's Club, it's worth a look. Lots of information.
Xterra Firma is also pretty good. |
I would have to say the xterra, i read in 4wheeler that it is the best value for the price
|
Oh... have to say... I've had mine for three years... It's been great.

Toyota or Nissan.... Toyota all the way. Resale and reliability.
I would look at the Ford Escape and the Jeep Liberty before dropping a dime. But what do I know. |
toyota usually IS more reliable and higher resale...but Nissan is the better choice this time. If he ever want to go off of the paved road, the Rav4 should not be his choice. If he will never leave the pavement, then the rav4 will be a little better ride (probably) and get better mileage. I think he made teh right choice in cars, though the supercharger would have been nice...
