This brought a smile to my face. I think the PT cruiser is one of the most unattractive vehicles ever produced. In my opinion it's up there with the Aztek.

Wow, there's a lot of hate for a car that's been around for a decade and passed the one million units sold mark. The retro styling was a bit cutesy, but I saw a lot of them being used by small businesses as a fuel efficient mini panel truck. At least it wasn't another mini van filling that role.

I've had mine since 10/00 and the spouse's since 1/03.
I've run 14 drags against other more modded PT's and won 12 times, including low ET for a weekend event.
The only major work in those 9.5 years has been control arms and timing belt replacements.
You are right about one thing-that's YOUR opinion. And it's one of no-nothing snobbery-a main reason I no longer frequent this place. You're the same people who think NACSCAR is only enjoyed by toothless stupid rednecks.
Oh, and for the record, one of the most admired original members that also has become infrequent of late is a close friend of mine and we met.......

I like this vehicle. It's a great rental since it is comfortable and easy to get in and out without being an extremely tall ride like an SUV.

I find it a shame that they didn't do more with evolving the model, and like the Neon, it was hailed as a great arrival, and then they rested on their laurels and did nothing.

Typical American company corporate strategy.

C'mon NG, just cause we think a car is ugly doesn't mean we think it's useless. They could have used the same material to make a really fashionable car. But their minds glossed through all the available concept cars and created the PT.

I think that was rather uncool of them.

As I said before, I think the Aztek was uglier. I would like to see a NASCAR race with just PT Cruisers and Azteks competing. That would be cool.

I liked the PT when it came out. However, the styling remined static and now looks dated - odd to say for a retro design. To me it certainly much more acceptable than the Chevy HHR.

I used to hate the PTs until my wife got one and it's actually a nice car. I still don't enjoy the outside styling, but it's not nearly as ugly as everyone says. At least it doesn't look like a damn jelly bean mixed with a Camry, like 99% of cars out there!

Oddly enough I don't like the PT cruiser (I think they're frighteningly ugly sorry no offense) and yet I don't think NASCAR fans are stupid toothless rednecks. Uh oh, now I don't know if I'm a snob or not. Oh well it doesn't matter as I'm widely admired thus rendering everyone elses opinion moot. Life as the widely admired ROCKS!!!!!

Doesn't even have to be tangible objects, really. I've been more-or-less (scale says 'more') told off in the past few weeks just because I questioned an affiliation's tactics in marketing, which another member here supported, and I was told that my side of the argument didn't matter because I elocuted my contention in such a way - that, I don't know, they felt threatened or disgusted or turned off, and I never mentioned them once in my post, but regardless, my investment and thought expansion was just left there - as if I kicked dirt on someone's idea because I didn't initially agree with it. Been told off for asking elaborations on the OP as well; some are just too invested into their ideals to be completely rational and amiably-communicative about it. I was questioning the discussion points at hand, as I regularly do, if so in a manner to better understand the topic, its context, and general meaning, yet was chastised, for I know not the reason why unstated member(s) perceived it to be more of a personal agenda against them.

What about any one of my posts says 'personal'? I don't spend thirty minutes thinking and typing out a post just to subtly say 'shoo, you don't matter', though I do routinely get those in return, which is odd, and as of yet, I see no basis or examples for insults in this thread (save for the initial tone of how this thread came about, on a level of "I'm up here and an objective observer of good design & stylistics in contemporary US daily life dealings, and this car of which I'm speaking, this PT Cruiser, is all the way down there, in the gutter, a malignant curse upon this town, these people, by God, our country's ideals and FREEDOM, an automobile so wretched, I now sing the praises of its last dying breath, for well, finally, it has been slayed from future productions." Cars I don't like?
My aesthetic sense doesn't agree with most of the shoe-box-looking car designs that have been rolling out since the turn of the millenium. The once-new Transformers yellow Camaro is a good-enough popular example of this trend. The Hummer variations are another.

In my opinion, the Plymouth Prowler is somewhat like envisioning a PT Cruiser devoid of 60% of its body structure, so in that regard, I think the PT is at least 25% cool.

I didn't think the PT was ugly, but retro designs are going to be a love/hate proposition. But, we rented a new PT a couple years ago and drove it a few hundred miles and it was probably the worst rental car I've ever had. It had numerous small problems, drove like a bucket of mush, and got terrible fuel mileage.

All it had going for itself was the retro looks. All sizzle and no steak.

It could have been cool, shame they only made it with a V6 and one of Chrysler's legendary Ultradrive automatics.

I know several Lesbians that are probably beyond sad the PT is no longer being made!! The purple ones (PTs not lesbians) were a hot commodity in Northern California.

Honestly, people are fans of cars for many reasons, and I love some of the niches even if I'd never even own one. I know Festiva enthusiasts, for Christ's sake. To each his or her own, but understand that your opinion is not the popular one if you love your PT. What I can say about the PT is that there are very few cars so universally reviled by enthusiasts I have known. Poor build quality and frequent failures of suspension components and the transmission, paint that chips off due to factory masking, poor interior quality and panels that fall apart, sloppy handling, complete lack of feeling connected to the road, control arms and steering arms prone to failure, a 2.0 engine in the economy model that lags behind the Mustang and Panther platform V8s in fuel economy while failing to produce the acceleration necessary for anything but the most regulation of highway merges, plus the fact that a lot of people consider it just plain ugly.

As an enthusiast of the Lincoln Mark VII/VIII, the BMW 850, and several other wonderful cars that were objectively terrible, don't think I'm attacking you, just realize that you, like I, love a shitty car.

Somebody mentioned the Chevy HHR as being as disgusting looking as a PT Cruiser. It's actually not such a bad looking car in person.

I simply don't get the decisions people make aesthetically when it comes to certain cars. This refers to everyone: designers, big wigs, consumers. I don't get how people would spend the money on the PT Cruiser, the Prowler, the Asstek, the Honda Element, those box things that I think Mercedes and Nissan are making (they're not "boxy"; they're boxes), the Mustang from about 1980 to 2002 or so, etc.

What I don't get is why spend the money on these options when there are other perfectly okay-looking competitive models? I don't get how people think these cars look good. Okay, I was a bit harsh on the Mustang and the Element, but still....

If I ever get around to buying my first car, there's no way I'm going to spend the money on something that, for whatever reason, is trying not to look like a car. Mind you, the look of the car won't be the top priority, but I would have to look at the thing time and again, right?

Baraka: Exactly. The 2010 PT Cruiser Classic starts at $18,995. Just by doing a quick search on vehix, I found a certified pre-owned 2006 AUDI A3 for $16,995. I'd go with the used Audi, thank you very much.
