Thanks for the reply.
Can you be a bit more specific? I am asking for a friend and don't have the car to inspect myself. Does anything have to be removed to find the VIN? What part of the door is it likely on?

Providing the plaque is easily visible, that should be enough information. If panels or such have to be removed to find it, I might need more details, but I think that should be plenty of info. The photo was a great addition. It's impressive to get such a detailed answer in such a short time period for such an obscure request.
