A virgin F-1 car....
Richard Branson--the billionaire owner of the Virgin Group--has reached a deal to sponsor the Brawn GP Formula One team, beginning this weekend at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, according to British newspaper The Times. An official announcement has not been made by either Branson or the team; however, word is expected to come on Friday as the race weekend begins. If the report is accurate, Virgin will become Brawn GP’s first sponsorship acquisition since the team’s management bought the assets of the former Honda operation. Brawn GP, which shocked its rivals during preseason testing by setting the fastest times with drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, ran without sponsorship during the sessions. According to The Times, Virgin will not be the team’s title sponsor, but its logos will be featured prominently on the cars. Branson is thought to have held discussions during the winter to buy the Honda team himself. But he said that he elected not to do so because he believes F1 has problems that need solving before he becomes involved at such a level, including the high costs and the need to use more green technologies. xoxoxoo
