Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction

I can only assume that some of you fellow car guys will be watching it this weekend. I for one love it and will be watching most of the weekend. Yesterday was quite fun because it is almost within reach of most people to go and purchase on day one and two.

I can't not watch it. I love seeing so many cool cars even if I can't afford them. And like you said, I'm not getting richer but every once in a while a real nice car goes on the block and sells for less than I'd pay for it or could pay for it. I've seen a few recently that I thought were "good values" to me that I could afford.

The auction I was watching last week or so sold Robosaurus

I watch it, I do get tired of the announcers talking about it being the ultimate reality show, seeing as to how most of us don't have a fraction of the money to be a player at the auction. And I really get sick of Craig Jackson interrupting the auction to lament how little the car is going for when it is still getting huge money. It's hard to not be envious of Ron Pratt.

But yeah, Tuesday and Wednesday is fun just because some of those cars are in reach. I thought the one millionth Saturn that sold for $6500 wouldn't be a bad daily driver.

I was watching it tonight. I was suprised when a '74 Trans am went for $67k and 2 cars later a nice '69 vette went for only $50. The Corvette was definitely a steal, it was very nice by all appearances. On another subject, I wonder how the state of the economy will be affecting the auction.

I was going to say I don't think the high end classic car market will be noticeably effected by the economy, but then I remembered an article in the paper yesterday about a Lamborghini dealer in Cali that sold off about 54 Lambos in a few days, which was a major percentage of all Lambos sold in the U.S., and apparently absconded with the money; he also allegedly ripped one of the casino owners for a few hundred grand by selling his Lambo and never paying the owner for it.

The ones I'm still sort of remembering, I saw a couple hot rod roadsters and a couple antique'ish pre-40's cars, very nice examples, go for way under $50k...the roadster I'm thinking went for $29k and I woulda paid that in a heartbeat...two or three times during the televised parts I watched I even said to my wife "wow, I'd seriously sell my Supra and buy that".

Sadly the Speed channel is no longer part of basic cable here so I can't see it anymore.

It was great TV to have on in the background and if I owned a bar, that's what I'd have playing.

Yeah there have been some great steals and also some head scratchers (like what fiatguy mentioned) but all in all fun to watch. From now on everything gets out of reach at least for me. I also agree with the need to stop begging for more bids by Craig, a car is worth what is bid.

I've been tempted to try fantasy bidding since a couple times I've gotten very close ...but I'm too lazy/enjoying just watching and veg'ing out. If I change my mind I'll use my TFP screen name...wave hello

Aw man! I've been way off on all my bids, but I had $120,000 on the last T-bird! And I bid almost the nanosecond they had it up on the website for bid. How exciting to see the bid stall at $120000, and how disappointing to see it drop back down to $115 and not make it back to $120. I thought I had an ipod for a moment there.

I'm not guessing as good as usual either...and not consistent, some way over some way under. It must be the economy...or the humidity.
