Gas tank is usually relocated when they drop a truck that low. No danger of spontaneous combustion.

I think they usually, though not always, build skid plates into the underneath specifically for that purpose...I know I would. I do like low riders. Something about that extra step of extremism appeals to me.
People have told me "...awesome, your car shoots flames out the exhaust..." but this would take it to a new level. |

I think I'd rather go with the skid plates rather than jeopardize the integrity of the frame.

Yeah, that's one of those "pussy" things my better judgement will override regardless of what some think about it. I'll cheat too...the material of the skidplate can be chosen to make a lot more sparks than just steel on pavement.

ahhh, a true spark afficianado. Now I understand.
I'll have to work out the colored sparks routine. I wonder what color sparks tungsten plates would blow off? Or just use replaceable steel skid plates. Last edited by BadNick; 12-11-2008 at 04:54 AM.. |

lol But with the plywood, judges can measure wear, and determine if there has been cheating: Further, the FIA requires a "plank" made of plastic be bolted to the under side of the tub. It serves two purposes. One is to keep the monocoque from grinding off on the track surface when the car bottoms out on bumps. The other is to make sure no one is cheating on the 6 cm minimum ride height. The "plank" is made of a known thickness. After the race, the FIA measures it, to see how much has been ground off. If it's anything over about a millimeter, it is assumed the team was running the car too close to the ground and the car is disqualified. Michael Schumacher was once stripped of a race win because of this. SPEEDtv.com Forums | Chasis bottom I do believe that the material isn't necesarily wood, there are rules around the density and material to be used.
