Wheels & Warbirds Show
The 2008 Wheels & Warbirds show was held this past weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, which is a new auto racing track in Millville NJ and it's right next to Millville Airport. Millville Wheels & Warbirds Show 2008
It was a very nice show on a beautiful sunny mild day...except for the first two, these are some pics I took; not a lot of great pics but it'll give you the flavor of the show...if you click on the thumbnail pic it'll open larger (assuming this darn fangled internetz stuff actually works): |

Besides fun, this event was to benefit the Millville Army Air Field Museum...see poster below. In my photo you can see somebody standing on the back side where there were stairs leading inside, with a "donation bomb" at the entrance so you could drop in any contribution to help support the Museum ...inside they had a couple of museum items on display with plenty of room for about 1-1/2 people at a time. The kids seemed to really enjoy it and a few were always lined up waiting to go in.

Here's a link to my buddy's album of this show...many more cool pics of the vintage racers that I didn't get in mine, as well as a couple in-car vids of him driving his Spridget: http://vintageracer.tripod.com/njmp2008.html

I talked to the two guys driving the 510's...they were even older than me! They said they survived this long since they're so serious about their roll cages...these two Datsuns had about the most substantial roll cages there that day; similar to what you'd see in a recent NASCAR stock car.
I always loved 510's too, remembering them from back in the early to mid 1970's and the days of TransAm when John Morton, Bob Sharp and others were so competitive with them. I saw them run quite a few times at Watkins Glen, NY. Since I don't want to convert my Supra into a hardcore racecar, I'm looking into building and club & vintage racing something and a 510 is a damn good candidate. |

Yea, until you see what they cost! I haven't stumbled across one that is complete for under $3k, even if its a basketcase. The only ones worth playing with I've seen as high as $8500 in stock condition, and most of those are all the way out in CA. Same goes for the older Toyota Coronas.

I can sympathize with what you're saying, BC, but after owning a Supra for almost ten years, that sounds "reasonable". I think I'd be on the lower end of that range since I wouldn't be looking for a clean one to restore to "stock", it would be something suitable to be stripped out and caged for racing...I know they are highly collectible so that does escalate the prices. The other "related" car I'm looking for is a Datsun 1600 or preferrably a 2000, for the same purpose.

$3000 sounds reasonable until you show up and realize you're looking at a little tin can sitting on 4 wheels, and you have to start by replacing every floor pan in the thing.

...is it considered bad internet manners to go off topic in your own thread? Not that I'd change my evil ways, just so I'll know.
Besides considering various "JDM goodness" for this racecar, I really have my heart set on something good ole American. So I've been hunting for an old Studebaker. Some of the mid '50's Hawks and similar 2 door hardtop sleek designs would make a very cool roadracer imo ...or for my personal lightness of being, after I hit the lottery I'd just buy a Lotus 2Eleven: |
