1.6 miles of bliss
Click picture to see Google Maps link This simple map fails to convey the greatness of this 1.6 mile stretch of asphalt nestled between majestic trees, flowing rivers, and an occasional deer in Rockland County. When you hit this road at the right time (sometime right after sunrise when traffic is nonexisten) in the right car (something that is light and quick), it will take your breath away. It's like discovering Led Zeppelin for the first time (especially if the first song you've ever heard from them was 'Stairway To Heaven') I think it was somewhere around that second '106' mark when I discovered the awesomeness of this road. James Brown was playing on my iPod, the engine was humming between 4 - 7k, and somewhere through a set of switchbacks, a smile just erupted across my face. It didn't hit me immediately, more of a budding feeling that, "damn, this is a nice road," but when I hit this ridiculously long right-hander that made my tires sing to the trees, it brought that smile to my face and that's when I knew I had stumbled upon something beautiful. When I got to the end, I had to pull over and bask in the afterglow of such an intense cargasm. Only one word could sum up the entire experience: "Wow."

Simpson was on the shortlist but Cameron did not think that such a nice guy could be a ruthless killer. -From the Collector's Edition DVD of The Terminator |

QuasiMondo : This is one of my favorite threads of all time. Perhaps not the most interesting or the most humorous, but one of my favorites.
I smiled at you as you passed, feeling it just when you did.

I love your exposition. Makes me just want to go there and drive that a few times. It's less than two hours away from here so it would be so worth it.
Actually, some of my local car buddies go to the Bear Mountain area for cruises and that's right there. I'll insist we try that next time, though with this kind of road, the less who know about it the better. |

let's just hope that it stays undiscovered in this way for some time to come so it can be enjoyed without being spoiled.
Nice write-up.

I absolutely love those amazing and undiscovered or unused roads.
I can't tell you where they are, though.

That looks like fun. I ran a nice stretch of curvy twisties, and kept the engine about 4000rpm for MOST of the run, and ran the 23.2 miles in 17m, 14s. I love those kinds of roads.
Take pics next time out?
