VW Touareg

Got a couple in yesterday. It's going to be an interesting vehicle, I think. Hopefully, it marks a turn around in VW build quality, along with the Phaeton. What are your thoughts on the vehicle?

I like it. Of course I'm a VW fanatic. I don't think I'd buy one though, it's too nice, and I'd want to do some serious offroading with it, and then scream when I chipped the paint... Well, I guess a ClearBra wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yup...I work at a VW dealer. We're actually a dual dealer, so we have Audi as well. And, we have SAAB & Nissan as well. Maybe I'll try to get some "real world" pics of one today.

Thanks to US Emissions controls the V10 diesel isn't going to be allowed in this country.

Granted you can still buy a monster diesel Ford Excursion cause that's American

Same platform as the Porsche Cayanne. Stiff structure and lots of electronics to keep it moving in the slop.

I didn't get a time on it then. Just that the vehicle itself was coming end of June, early July. We have the vehicle now...maybe a model year later for the diesel? I really don't know.

They didn't confirm the Microbus, I don't think. They did have pictures and stuff, but I don't remember a confirmation on it. I didn't like it, though.

I just test drove one today, what a great interior, it was so awesome. And the ride was incredible. At the delearship I went to they had a V6 for test driving, but also were prepping a V8. They also had two other V6s of which one had air suspension. The delear said that if I came in on Monday I could see the air suspension, which would be awesome. We are planning to get the V6 version cause it has ample power and better ride thanks to the individual suspensions than other suv's we checked out.

And YES VWOA did confirm the Microbus, just don't know what the production version will look like

I drove a V6 the other day. Beautiful interior - best I've seen in a vehicle this price. Nicely tuned suspension, drives like a german sedan mostly. The high center of gravity isn't nearly as noticable as in most SUV's. The V6 in a vehicle this heavy is underpowered for my tastes but would probably satisfy most SUV buyers. It's competitive with the X5 at a much lower price.

I still prefer wagons, though. They have all the space and utility of a mid size SUV for the way that most people use them. But they are quicker and handle better.

My friend who is a touareg certified mechanic says ther are a bunch of things that suck about them.
Parts are pricey....$1000 a door panel for instance
The ignition switch actually sends out a signal to the starter....so the starter will crank over for 30 seconds before it gives up if it doesn't start. But otherwise I guess it's nice cause for small it is the towing capacity is really nice.

i quite like this vehicle... but the name is a bit of a strange one.
i mean, iŽd like to see them call it the Touaregi, so that it could have all the vowels.

then we could call the Reggie for short... i like that...

The reason that Diesel engines aren't as popular in America as in Europe is that our diesel fuel sucks. Federal standards are making our fuel better, but it's still going to be way behind the purity of the rest of the world's diesel.

On the Touareg, it looks pretty cool. I'm not much into SUVs, but the ads are great, and VW is a pretty solid manufacturer.

Isn't it amazing how far VW have come from their roots as a "PEOPLES CAR" company. Heck, thats what VolksWagen means.

Touareg is a sweet car. Single most powerful diesel-engine in a production car. Saw them tow a combine across a field in some tv show...lots of torque. It comes at a price. When a diesel engine has worse mileage than my 1.8l gasoline engine, you know it's bad...apparently it only does like 8km per litre. Still though, I'd drive it!!

How so? Peoples car may refer to a car for all kinds of people. Golfs for active people or first cars, passats for familys, t-regs for soccer mom people, phaetons for big luxury car driving people. They are all still people
