Worst Cars of 2008

Quote:
The worst cars are as follows:

• Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
The Wrangler Unlimited was characterised by its poor ride and handling as well as its subpar fuel-economy, fit and finish.

• Hummer H3 five-cylinder
Poor performance and fuel-economy as well as a low rating for handling and reliability ensured the Hummer H3 was at the bottom.

• Jeep Liberty Sport
Rated poorly for fuel-economy, NVH levels and fit and finish.

• Chevrolet Aveo5
The Aveo5 only suffered from poor acceleration and handling but compared to its rivals the South Korean hatch was the worst performer.

• Dodge Nitro SLT
One of the worst cars in the field, the Dodge Nitro SLT was rated as having poor ride, handling, braking, NVH levels and fuel-economy.

• Toyota FJ Cruiser
A work horse SUV that requires premium fuel and suffers from poor fit and finish and subpar ride and handling.

• Toyota Yaris
The Yaris is one of the most popular subcompacts in the world but its poor acceleration and vague steering meant it was one of the worst cars in this year’s compare.

• Suzuki Forenza
The Suzuki Forenza was rated poorly because of its inadequate acceleration, fuel economy, ride, and low results in the IIHS sidecrash result.

• Jeep Patriot Limited
Another Jeep model made the list of worst performance, once again for poor acceleration, engine noise, driving position, visibility, front-seat comfort and fit and finish.

• Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT
Poor handling, braking and fuel-economy ensure the Chevrolet TrailBlazer is at the bottom of the list.

• Mercury Grand Marquis
The ageing Grand Marquis rounds out the list of the 11 worst cars of 2008, and was picked because of its rough sounding engine, poor ride and fuel-economy and low IIHS side-crash result.

Can't say I disagree with the list. I'd never own any of the cars on it.

Amen on the Nitro: the worst car ever made.

The Yaris? I think it's really quite good for what you pay for, and you can't argue with the MPG numbers. Sam with the Aveo. Only a fool would get a 40 mpg vehicle and expect it to drive like a BMW.

I own a Yaris since 2006 and it is a complete blessing. Before the Yaris, I used to drive an Audi A4 Turbo every day to work. I spent around $50.00 every 5 days in gas. With the Yaris I'm spending $50.00 every 15 days!!!! Granted, there's a lot of noise inside and the suspension feels somewhat stiff. Acceleration isn't great but I'm not complaining as I only use it in the city so there's no need for a dragster. My wife uses the Audi now and everytime she gets into the Yaris she complains about it been too loud, too slow, etc..., however, you can't compare an Audi with a Yaris. For the price you pay for it and for what it does, I'd say is one of the best cars ever.

I hate those lists. Most of those on the list weren't compared to their peers in the same class. Of course a Yaris or Aveo aren't crisp handling quick accelerating cars. They're not meant to be. They're meant to be basic transportation. The Consumer Reports website also criticized the Jeep Wrangler H3 Hummer and FJ Cruiser for their off roading ability, which kind of misses the point.

yeah the aveo isnt a bad car at all, especially when us young punks need to get all the way to south florida to play a show and cash is limited.

We've stacked 8 in an aveo before and drove from haines city (just north-west of orlando) all the way to coral springs and back. not cumfy, but cheap.

I think that some of those cars probably do suck (haven't driven any of them) but to not rate the off-road worthiness of the 4WD vehicles and figure that into the equation seems kind of dumb. It may not have mattered much with the H3 and the Nitro, but you have to at least give them a chance to fail. The Wrangler may lack fit and finish, but if it makes up for it with off-road worthiness, some people may view that as a fair trade.

I rented a Liberty this weekend and drove it from Tampa to Port Charlotte and back. It was a passable vehicle. I didn't like the ride, it was taller than I liked but not tall enough for being a 4x4 since this was just a big 2 wheeler.

It was adequate a decent midsize, since they rented out the midsize cars, they offered me a midsize SUV at no extra. It cost me plenty to fill up the tank, about $50 for 3/4 fill up.

The Yaris I rented in Iceland. It's a fun ride. I liked it. It has a peppy engine and is like a little dog pretending it's a big dog. I enjoyed driving it around Reyjavik even had abaya and ktspktsp in the back seat.
