Methinks it's time to get my Dart back on the road.... Reading how sad some people are that they've sold them makes mewant to put the effort into it and keep it. :)

Captain Canada 07-28-2003 08:33 PM

My first car was a Shit Brown 1985 GMC Jimmy 4x4 2 door. It was in perfect condition for a 17 year old car. I had it for about 6 months, til I sold it so I could buy my current car, a Blue Ridge Pearl 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Coupe

Asharus 07-28-2003 08:59 PM

I started driving in 1999, and my first car was a 1990 BMW 325i. I sold it 3 years later in 2002 and bought a 1992 BMW 525i, which I still drive, until I'm able to afford a 1997+ 5 series.

Tickford 07-28-2003 09:38 PM

For all you aussies out there, I had (and still got) a 1972 Ford Falcon XA. It had a 250 ci, and sucked fuel like nothing else. It went to hell and back. 4 wheel drum brakes with power assistants. Stopping the thing was a joke. I had lots of shags in it. Nice big bench seats. :)......

Ah, the Falc-hoon, back when they were still actual Aussie cars, rather than an accumulation of parts from all over the Ford world.

pezking4 07-29-2003 06:10 AM

My first car was a 1982 Ford F-150 Explorer long bed. It was big, red, had two gas tanks, and I bought it for $5 :)

I have no idea how many miles it had on it, but it got me around just fine, and was a great way to learn about basic maintenance.

Moonduck 07-29-2003 07:00 AM

My first car was an '83 Cavalier. Whee. Very shortly I got into 70's era Jeeps, Mustangs, etc.

Peryn 07-29-2003 09:07 AM

1987 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. AMC 242 4.0L i6 (before chrysler really owned jeep, when it was an American Motors car). Bulletproof engine.

Dont think i will ever get rid of that car, it just wont die. 250k miles on the car, absolutely no engine or tranny work (course i dunno if tranny fluid has ever been changed), and 4x4's insanely good. Buddy has a new Wrangler, lifted a little bigger tires, and has only been ever able to go 1 place i wasn't adn only cuase of clearance.

Yup, that car will never die. PLus, gobs of tourqe, and 4w low could pull a house down...

BeBogus 07-30-2003 10:25 PM

My car was known as "the Beast", not because of its size or power but the way i would drive it and push the baby to its limits. It was an '85 Dodge Aires in a Sky Blue (also known as the cloud-mobile becasue the paint was chipping and there was a white undercoat) didn't come with map lights, came with front row bench seat... in pleather, and it only had an AM radio. :-P fun times in that car till i had to give it up to the Salvation Army since it didn't pass its emission test and it would have costed to much to fix the car.

cougr 07-31-2003 04:18 AM

Haha BeBogus, that was what my chevelle was called! It too did not have map lights and only AM Radio and a vinyl front bench. And since it was a 67, I never had to worry about emissions

Why did I hit that telegraph pole...

samiam 08-01-2003 09:30 AM

My first car was an original VW Beetle, teh one with the air warmer instead of a heater and no fuel guage. Boy was it cold in the winter. All in all, it was fun to drive, probably because it was my first car.

Mine was a '69 Chevelle with a straight six cylinder. Blew that engine on the highway big time when I was 17.

08-05-2003 12:18 PM

'71 Pontiac LeMans Sport 350. TH350 tranny and an insanely steep rear gear. Just about impossible to keep the back wheels planted firmly. My parents supplanted that with a new '96 Oldsmobile Acheiva about six months later.

tj2001cobra 08-05-2003 12:37 PM

I had a 1982 Camaro. 6 Cylinder auto. Man that car was slow. Then I got a 1992 Nissan 240sx new when I graduated High School. I thought it was fast. A couple of trucks later, I bought a 2001 Mustang Cobra. It IS fast. It is pushing close to 500 HP at the wheels. It is alot of fun......

1981 Buick LeSabre hand-me-down from my grandma.
it was built like a tank. I once hit a low treebranch and knocked it off the tree, but no damage at all to the buick

Pragma 08-05-2003 03:30 PM

'92 Acura Integra GS, automatic. It's a great car, has tons of miles and keeps on chugging with absolutely no hiccups. I got it only recently, installed a new air filter, and a few minor things, but I'm very happy with the performance - just wish it was manual.

Next car, though, is definitely going to be a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, that or a Mazda RX-7.

catback 08-05-2003 03:51 PM

1984 Ford Ranger 4 cyl short-bed, got it when I turned 15 in 1995, rusted through the roof (actually floor) didn't run to well but with a little work lasted 3 months past my 16th birthday before it jumped time thus leaving me without a ride...It was nice while it lasted, for such a bad condition truck it sure got up

mpedrummer2 08-05-2003 04:48 PM

1991 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab...the 2.9L V6, 5-speed manual.

I loved it. The A/C didn't work, neither did the power locks. It did 0-60...eventually. It could bark the tires, but only if it was raining :).

I put the first dent in it with my ass...i ran and slid across the hood, thought I was cool, and went to do it again. The second time, though, I didn't jump high enough and smashed right into the driver's front fender...the dent is still there.

It still runs, most of the time...it's in the backyard. Holy shit, I'm turning into a redneck...

This 63 volvo has dual slide carbs on a four cylinder engine. (tons of power)and would easily break 115 MPH, I was scared to go any faster cuz i had shitty tires...

I don't have a car of my own just yet (still in college and really don't want to pay car insurance) but I did learn to drive in a metallicized steel-gray 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320. My Dad recently got rid of it because he wanted a Bimmer; as you can imagine, it was emotional to lose a car so close to my heart for driving.

The HD had a completely new body (following EH). Engineered entirely in Australia, the new model offered substantial increases in passenger and load space. Disc brakes were offered as factory option for the first time. Early demand for the HD Holden was exceptionally high. During the first few months, sales outstripped those of the record breaking EH. The X2 motor was offered as an option on all models and developed 105kW by virtue of the twin carbys, a modified camshaft, new manifolds, and a low restriction exhaust system. The three speed hydromatic transmission was replaced by the Powerglide two speed. With a choice of three engines, two gearboxes and an expanded options list (which included the latest fashion , the vinyl roof) the HD gave the Holden buyer the greatest choice yet.

In 1965 20,000 Holdens were exported.

And it's still on the road today. I'm on my fourth car since then, but the person I sold it to still uses it as a second car.

1995 Cadillac Sedan de Ville (Silver w/ Red Leather Interior)
1995 Ponitac Grand Prix SE
2004 Subaru Impreza WRX

The Cadillac was given to me, however it kept getting keyed since I was still in high school, so it got traded in for the GP which I drove until its transmission bit the dust in June (at least it lasted me through BS and MS degrees). At which time I bought my first car. The WRX, which can hopefully last me through the P.hD.

A 1964 Ford Fairlane 500. This was in the early 70's. It was given to me by my father's third wife.

I also had a 1972 Honda CB350 motorcycle at the time.

It died when the driveshaft broke and set the rear seat on fire. It coasted into a no parking zone. I scrapped it and barely got enough to pay the parking tickets.

73 Olds Omega 2door with the Rocket 350

1982 chevy c20 pickup with a 350 built for pulling power. Fun truck. But my first car was a 1983 alfa romeo GTv6. Mine had a 3.0 v6 in it and was the size of a CRX and rwd. What a fucking sleeper.

1977 Chevy Malibu.

It was a hand-me-down from dad. It had over 100,000 miles on it, but still ran decent enough. I aquired it in 1987.

The first car my wife & I bought after getting married was a 1992 Saturn SL1, with a 5-speed manual transmission. It shifted like a dream. Man, I miss that car!!

my first car was an 84 chevy cavilier station wagon. i think just about everything broke on piece of shit. my friends and i nicknamed it the grunion(after the fish). because if it was a fish it would just flop around on the beach gasping for air... it was a fun car for high school and got me everywhere. but the one thing that pisses me off the most about that damn car was all my friends got laid in it and i never did...

First car i got a few months ago. It is a 1992 Honda civic CX hatchback. only 86400 when i got it. Now it has a RS akimoto intake and a Flowmaster muffler. No speed limiter, so it goes up to at least 115. 1.5 liter 70 h.p. firecracker!

Was 2000 VW golf.. I loved that car. I was in an accident though so I am without one. I really lucked out on getting it.. Was my step-bro's but he couldn't afford to keep it when he moved. So I convinced my parents to just let me have it. No down payment = good.

That thing was so fun to drive (manual).

And my accident was hitting ice and going into a pole not 40' away.. I imagine there wasn't much I could do but I cant remember. =/

1978 Ford Thunderbird.

Affectionately known as the "War Pig." It was dark metallic brown witha brown vinyl roof. Quishy brown interior too. Spoke hubcaps, whitewalls, she was a sweet looking beast. Not.

It had the 400ci V8 wit ha 4 barrel on it. Man, when you're 16 and working part tiem at a grocery store, it gets hard to keep gas in a car like that, which is ultimately why I got rid of it.

It had two rust holes in the trunk, just behind the rear wheels. Not visible from outside. Anything that went in the trunk would be cooled after a 10 minute drive due to the air getting in and circulating. A Thunderbird with a built in cooler. Always a good thing.

Mine was a 1984 Cutlass Supreme. I was 16 and my parents wanted me to have something "safe". It was a friggin hurse!

My first car . . .
A '64 Plymouth Valiant (already whippped to death)I bought off my best friend's dad for $50. (this was 1973)
I beat the living shit out of that car; put it in the ditch many times; put about a million miles on it, and sold it for $75!

A bronze, 1978 Ford T-Bird with a 351 Cleveland. That fucking car hauled some serious ass. My cousin and I drove it from Arizona to Cape Cod in 1999 and I gave it to him. I really miss that car and the lack of a car payment.

I really wish I had lost my virginity in it. Sigh.

1991 eagle talon tsi AWD, had to sell it though. I plan on buying another 1st gen DSM eventually once I can afford a project car.
