Most expensive car that you've driven

A couple years ago I got to spend an afternoon with a Maybach 62S, which costs $426,000 before you start customizing your personal options and such. The one I drove had sold for $685,000 after options, taxes, etc.

Is it a great car?

Umm, it's just a bit way too over the top in terms of luxury excess, and I guess one might get more enjoyment out of being driven then actually driving it.

Nice! Maybachs are almost silly, they're so luxurious.

When I was in HS, I was suckered into a pyramid scam...I mean multi-level marketing organization called 2by2.net. It was a horrible, horrible mistake, but one positive thing that came out of it was getting to drive a 2001 Lambo Diablo. It was stupid fast, and I've not had that much fun driving before or since.

Most expensive cars I've driven are a handful of racecars. Moved around some Top Alcohol dragsters, Top Sportsman cars, and some IHRA Pro Stockers.

That's what got me thinking about expensive cars.

willravel,

Yeah, there is a kind of level of silliness about the over-the-top luxoriousness of the Maybach. Kinda like those uber-rich types who have solid gold faucets and such, though the Maybach never comes close to that sort of kitcshiness.

Well I say silly with all due respect. They're some of the most amazing vehicles on the planet, so it's hard to not respect that. It's kinda like having a movie theater in your house. It's rare, it's very luxurious, and it's for the uber-rich...but it's really cool.

If you are driving this car, that's a problem - for that much money you can afford a driver yourself...not that I come close to even knowing. Still sounds pretty cool - how did it handle?

My friend's S80 T6 was about the most expensive car I've driven. About $50,000

Well enough, I suppose.

It's not like I was gonna be flinging the damn thing around corners trying to get the back end to come around. What was interesting was the sense of isolation, in terms of noise.

I think debaser wins the most cool competition.

Unfortunately I'm not cool like you kids. I think the most expensive thing I've driving was a 500 series Mercedes on the german autobahn. That was fun.

Aside from a satellite broadcast truck, which is $500,000 before you put equipment inside, the priciest car I've driven was a Viper GTS. Damn that thing moved.

Mine would have to be an original Shelby Cobra, though it was only a few dozen feet. Even more fun was sitting in the drivers seat of a Ferrari F40 (both owned by my friend's dad). Unfortunately the F40 is in showroom condition and isn't driven at all.

Since we've included a couple things that are not a "car", I'll add a motorized vehicle that I drove and enjoyed. I rented a GMC Motorhome of mid 1970's vintage, back then they sold for well over $100,000.

I never drove any of them when they were new (so they had depreciated, but were expensive when new,) but I've driven an M5, two BMW 850s, two Boxsters, a 911, and an ex-UN-limo S500 (how the fuck am I supposed to get to the oil pan and rear differential through armor plates?)

BMW 750 li purchased with one lump some plan for $85,000. Seems way overpriced to me. A 10 minute drive was enough for me.
