Those cars are very safe, most real race cars are. They have to be since people crash like that. I have to say I hope that person that hit the first guy's rear corner got fined, that's a good way to cause a bad wreck.

I think what is amazing is the closeness of the stands and the fact that a chain link fence was strong enough to protect the people in the stands as well!

There have been so many bad wrecks over the years. One of the ones I remember was Danny 'On the Gas' Ongias at Indy in 1981. He hit the wall hard and it broke the front of the car off. You could see him strapped in, unconscious, with his legs and feet sliding down the track.
