You'll burn exhaust valves that way, not bend them. I would imagine that it is a cool factor for real quick more than anything. And it is!

Is that one of those Allison V12's in airplanes?

Might be. This is a Merlin V12. Not sure how the Allison compares. As you can see, it didn't have much in the way of exhaust pipe.

We were at a car show when I took that and the one below. The one below was started a few times and it was loud as hell even several hundred yards away.

no, you'll bend 'em. You get 'em warm, and then you shut the motor off, and the cool air hits 'em, and they warp.

that's why you see the dragster guys stuffing rags in the header pipes after they shut the motor off. To keep the cool air from getting in there.

It looks a lot like a Rolls-Royce Meteor...which is a Merlin with a supercharger removed, for use in tanks.

It looks like a Meteor........a 1650 cubic inch........Merlin based NATO Tank Eng. Many NATO counties used them until they all converted to diesel....They were all that color and have been on the British surplus market for a few years........There are 3 in Redmond and 2 in Maple Valley ........in lots of 5 they could be had for about $5000.00 delivered to Seattle. There are a good number of parts that can be used of a 1650 Merlin.
That is the best that me and my sources can come up with......Skippy
