My Tail of the Dragon video
We were in NC last week and I managed to get video from a single trip through the Dragon driving at a fairly easy pace. I wanted more, but it was not to be.
Anyway, here it is. Turn your speakers on because the sound in the cabin of that car is exquisite. It's 4 1/2 minutes long and nothing spectacular happens, so feel free to click it closed when you've had enough. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...99834251&hl=en Damn, I love that sound. |

Very nice road, and your car does sure sound good, too.
I just recently put that road on my radar screen as a "must do" sometime soon after some of the Supra guys local to down that area were talking about it ...in case you want to read what they said - I'm not sure if there are restrictions to viewing this thread from Supraforums, they're weird about that http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=382959 Probably not this year, but next Spring or Summer I'll try it myself. |

I've made faster runs but the circumstances of this trip robbed us of other opportunities. The only video I got was our first run and it was wet plus I expected to make many more runs over the course of the week that never happened. I'm sure we'll go back though. |

I was on that road dozens of times as a kid before it got famous amongst the driving enthusiasts. It's a great place for your little brother to get carsick all over the back seat. We used to take it up to Lake Santela in NC from Maryville, TN to camp, and apparently one of my parents' neighbors helped design it during the Depression (he's over 100 now).
It's also important to note that several drivers (usually motorcyclists) are killed on it every year. It's also incredibly busy when the Goldwings are in Knoxville for their annual convention.

I have gone there and it was absolutly amazing... I loved every second of it... the angle i must have been on to get the tread of almost the side of my tires to be worn must just have been insane.
when we got there... a guy was being airlefted out because he went off of the road and went in between 2 tree's and the tree's were so close together they stripped both saddle bags off of his harley and they were both left sitting on the side of the road

I was just down there this weekend on my bike. Southerners are so lucky with the twisty roads and beautiful scenery.
Here's some pics of me some website takes of everyone down there. No, knee scraping or double yellow crossing for me haha. Pic 42-46 on the blue and gold Buell. http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/Thum...1002&g=03&s=25 Couple more, 1078-1080 http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/orde...021077&po=1077

Nice pics, thanks. I bet that is fun on a bike...I'm imagining this, since I don't have a bike. Even though it's shot from behind, I liked #46 since you can see the esses with three more turns coming up...I can feel myself leaning into it. Sometime real soon I would like to run the Tail in my car. |

I was out for a cruise last night just looking for winding roads within driving distance of my home.
On a similar note, another world famous twisty road that looks pretty challenging is the Stelvio Pass in Italy: |

Check out www.killboy.com, he takes photos every weekend.
And please folks, keep it in your lane. Lots of accidents happen when people decide to cross the center line. |
