Garage Lifts
Anyone out there know anything about garage lifts for the home?
I just bought another car and I'm going to have to stack two of them and I'd love to buy a lift and now I finally have a reason! I looked at a lift and the price was INCREDIBLE but then I found out it was Chinese made. I would prefer a USA made lift. Any opinions about lifts that are available? |
Try ebay, I've had a Chinese lift for years, there cheap enough, if it quits in a few years buy another.

Whatever you get, get the 2 post model that lifts the car by the frame, rather than by the wheels.
That way you can rotate tires, do the brakes, and work on the suspension with the car on the lift. |
You can get a four post model with rolling jacks in the middle so you can still lift the car off the platform. Those are nice.

The last time I looked at those they were super pricey. But then I haven't looked at a lift in YEARS. |
I don't know about the Chinese jobs. I am currently using jack stands of Chinese origins and have questioned my cheapness since my life depends upon the quality of the metal every time I get under them.

Regardless of what kind of lift you get, make sure you have a tall door. Some family friends had a new garage built with twelve foot ceilings, just so that they could stack a car. Unfortunately, the contractor built it with a standard height door. So they can't open the garage door with the lift up.

I really suggest going with the frame lift as well even for the ease of use if anything else. the ones you need to drive up on can be a bit of a hassle if your alone without someone to guide you. Not to mention you can use them as a cherry picker as well if you ever need one. As far price goes... i wouldnt think of getting something just because its cheap if im gonna be standing under a car thats supported on it. Spending the extra grand for quality would be worth it in the end even if it just means it lasts longer.

belkins, I missed this at first I was refering to a ceiling hoist not a lift, I know nothing about lifts.
