Any Dodge Guys?
hey everybody hows it going? well i finally broke down and bought myself a new ride. its a 2000 dodge dakota r/t ext. cab truck. its white and got the 360 motor. she's going to the shop next week for new a airbag suspension with new wheels and tires. its going to pretty much drain all my mad money for everything but i think itll be worth it.
i really cant afford it right now but im looking into doing soon engine and a few other performance upgrades later on. to have a 360 in a fairly small truck you'd think it'd really run but the power just isnt there. i had a 99 r/t before and it would have smoked this one. there are several things ive read online that can be done (headers, exhaust, etc) i just believe money could be better spent going a different route. there are several magazine articles that talk about how much these motors are restricted. anybody else heard of this? if anyone knows much about mopar i'd like to hear some suggestions. i'll try to post some pics once construction begins. |

I remember when Motor Trend tested the Dakota R/T. Had good tire smokin' torque, but got outrun by a 4.7 Liter Dodge Ram. I'm sure that a good intake, exhaust, headers, cam, PCM programming will really open the thing up. Not sure what performance options are available for heads, and valvetrain components, but even the stock stuff can be modified to be better. You can have the heads ported, milled some, and what not.

Did you say Dodge? Well I always had a soft spot for Mopars. So nowadays I just say that the SRT-10 is pretty impressive for a high performance pickup truck, if you don't mean performance as how many cinder blocks or tons of dirt I would throw in back. This is one from last months meet at the local speed shop ...actually since they are last Friday of the month meets, another one tonight!

thanks dei thats what i kind of had in mind. i read online about a lightning killer package for $4799 which i think is a little steep but Click Me and you can read more about it. i think for that kind of money a fella could get some better grade parts. i wonder how much hp that stock bottom end would take?

Looking at the link, you're definitely right. However, there are some good parts in there, I would think. They're asking WAY too much for the throttle body. And it's itty bitty, too. A 52mm T/B is smaller than what's on my 3100 V6! They've got a 70mm on there for a 4.7...I would find out what it takes to retrofit that to your 5.9. I think I'd kind of pick and choose from some of that stuff, and go better where you can.
The headers, so long as the quality is decent, are a good price. They're raping you on the PCM, though I'm not a Mopar guy, but rather deal in the GM stuff. I would pass on the rockers, as a 1.6:1 ratio isn't much, even if factory is 1.5:1. Us GM 3800 guys get 1.9:1 setups. Skip the cosmetic stuff, as it'll give away the sleeper aspect. Who needs performance valve covers?

To the OP...do a Cummins Diesel conversion. Banks did it. Got it going some 220+ mph. And, it can be daily driven.
